2017, sales so far

I wouldn’t reduce your prices. I find that when I offer discounts it makes very little difference to my sales. I don’t think I charge enough when I look at what others charge, then I see other people who charge peanuts but you have to do what you feel happy with.

No, I won’t reduce my prices. I occasionally reduce something to a clearance price if it’s been in my shop for a long time but I don’t even do that very often.
People who sell so cheaply are just making it more difficult for the rest of us to get a decent price for our items and they are ‘undervaluing’ hand made. I don’t pay myself minimum wage as it is, but then I want to enjoy the process of making things and not feel I have to make them in a hurry so I just add what I think is a fair amount for my time depending on the item.

I’ve had 6 sales here this year, versus 30 from my other shop. Same items, same prices. For some reason, promoting my Folksy shop has no noticeable effect. Promoting my other shop works wonders, so that’s where my effort goes now.

If I was doing well on Etsy, I would shut my shop here, but my Etsy shop has fallen between the cracks in the floorboards. I can’t really understand why people stay here if they’re doing so much better elsewhere, though.

I have had 18 sales this year so far…that is good for me…I find it goes up and down and sales are never predictable…
I am sure that the Plus account and listing daily has helped a lot.

my sales on the other side have also plummeted , with no rhyme or reason so as they don’t have the equivalent of a plus account, I have had to cut my listings on there to half…
I prefer it here anyway…

People undervaluing their items is difficult. On my fb page I have an item that I make to order, the yarn alone costs £50 and yet I have seen people selling the finished item for £60 so for the 30+ hours it takes to make they are getting £10 - any PayPal fees etc. I can’t afford to do that! But I have also seen some prices that I think are way over the top so I’m happy that I’m in the middle.

@Bobblesblankets I find it difficult to photograph blankets too. My last one I put on the washing line but I still don’t think it really works.

I have decided to do a little promotion and am giving away a free key ring with all purchases over £10.00.

Sales so far in 2017: 1 on here, 14 on the dark side. It’s a no-brainer, really.

My Plus account ends at the end of Feb, so I’ll relist what’s here and leave my shop open until they expire. I’ve tried promoting here, I’ve joined social media, groups, you name it - it makes no difference. My sales on here have bombed so, after 6 years, very reluctantly, I’m giving up.

My sales for the current year 2016/17 are even lower than my very first year here. They grew until 2014, then started to decline, and have never picked up. I’ve always tried to support Folksy, it’s UK based and I love it here, but I have to take a hard-headed view on where my efforts should be concentrated…and sadly it’s not here.

My other shop is doing better, my sales over there are slowly growing, I feel more positive about my work over there. Hopefully it will continue.

I had another sale yesterday evening too. :star:

Thank you!

Christine - the reason I stay is I actually like quite Folksy - the dark side is a very cold place, and now they’ve got rid of treasuries too, there’s no ‘team’ interaction and the forum is littered in Americans talking about Trump! I see this place as British made and I hope that British people who care about originality and handmade are more likely to shop here… It’s a new set of eyes! Trouble is - there are no shop critics on here, perhaps I should start a thread, as I’d love to know where I’m going wrong! I share all my items to social media, just like I do with the other place, so I don’t think the fault lies there :frowning:

I sell well on Etsy and terribly on here but it is such a nicer place to be! I live in hope that it could return for me to be like the Good Ol’ Beta days of a sale a day! If I closed up totally I would miss that happening

Does Folksy promote the whole site anywhere or is purely down to each seller? Does anyone know? :grinning:

That is so kind…thank you!

No worries! x

Folksy do promote on all the main social media sites and do a number of events like weekend of the maker http://blog.folksy.com/event/weekend-of-the-maker. There’s probably lots more too, though Folksy is relatively small and probably wouldn’t have the budget for big advertising campaigns
