A question about gift box options

As the cards I make are quilled I would like to offer the option of a gift box for s small extra charge. Having looked around I see some sellers list the gift box as an item for sale. As I wish the box to go with the card and would be making it with that in mind I don’t want just to sell a box on its own as I wasn’t going to charge any postage for the box as it would come with the card.

Is there any way to add a gift box option at a small extra charge as a variation (I did try) or would I need to do what I’ve seen one seller do and that is put in their description that the boxes are only for sale with a card and if bought on their own the money would be refunded?

Sorry for the long question but I’m sure someone will have some advice. Thanks.

If you list your item, then go to preview. Scroll down and on the right you will see add or edit variations. You can add the gift box option then but remember to put the cost of the box, so if the card is £7 and the box is £3 add the extra £3.

Thanks for answering. I tried using the drop down variation but it seemed to want me to put lots of choices in like colours. Is it the other type of variation like personalisation I should be choosing?

You should be using the drop down variation but with only 2 options ‘with box’ and ‘without box’ - don’t add any extra lines to it as you won’t need them. Remember to double check if sending out in a gift box alters the postage costs - you need to add on any extra postage costs to the variation as you can only have one postage cost associated with the listing.

Thank you! I’ll give it another go. As I made the boxes myself I made sure they would fit within large letter rules. :+1:

Hello Julie, Gift boxes, this topic throws up all options. After spending to get the right design and quality, l found it easier to include the cost in my final figure. A lot of customers are grateful for the box, and thankful that they do not have to go and shop for one. Also, l feel it also gives your collection a feeling of quality, showing customers you care how they receive their gift. Sally

Thanks Sally. I definitely agree with you where jewellery is concerned as in your lovely shop. As I only make cards I think customers might only want a box for a certain special occasion and if they are not able to hand deliver they might prefer just an envelope so I think I will add it as an option. Thank you for posting.
