I opened my shop at the end of last year https://folksy.com/shops/Delythscreations, and although I had a friend buy a product to make sure it was functioning correctly I haven’t had one sale !..what am I not doing wrong…I am not very technical and very old school all this is pretty new to me,
Ive only just worked out how and where to type this !..I feel disheartened to create and make anything else to add to my shop, as I think what is the point?..I also opened another shop at the beginning of the year thinking maybe there isn’t a call for my crafts. https://folksy.com/shops/NaturalSnakeSticks, Im really not sure as to where I go from here.
Any advice as to what I am not doing would be gratefully appreciated.
The tags in your listings need to reflect what people will actually type in the search box - at the moment you have eg KeepSafeBag (all one word with no spaces), people are unlikely to use that term as it they are more likely to use keep safe bag (3 words with spaces). Search bots are very literal algorithms so if what has been typed in the search box doesn’t match the tags for due to lack of spaces then they aren’t going to put it in the search results. So first thing I would suggest is to go back over all your tags and put the missing spaces in. Then check out the folksy blog
Where do you tell people about your items? Your FB link is to your personal profile rather than a business page for example; are you on any other social media?
Some of your measurements are just in inches and I’d recommend also doing cm too. I’d also show the inside of bags as well, to show the lining. Also maybe hang them from a branch? Or door knob? Or if you have a willing model get them to wear one to show an action shot? Or use some props like a purse/lipstick/coins etc if doing a flatlay image? Some photos are a little dark and not showing off your creations to their very best. We all on Folksy know how difficult it can be to get good shots and ask each other on here for help.
Measurements for your SnakeSticks should be in both metric and imperial to give as much info as possible. I really like the photos you’ve used (but one of your listings doesn’t show the whole stick so would recommend you do that). I would also think about your audience for these sticks - who is your ideal customer - and think about how you would reach them using social media.
Reaching people and getting them to part with their money is very, very hard. It takes a while to build up customers and get out there and get seen above everyone else. Sasha has already posted a link to the Folksy Blog and it’s well worth a read - grab a cuppa and a biscuit!
Bless you thank you for the advice dear Liz, I didn’t realise just how old school I am !..no I am not on any other social media, I thought it was a business page !..oh dear is there any hope !
Thank you again Liz x
I echo the advice given above, and I would also add that your pricing struck me as unusual - £13.13 is a strange figure. On the listing I looked further at, the postage was free - you should note this clearly in your listing. But if the postage amount takes your price to an odd figure I would suggest either rounding down to £13, or up to £13.50. Also, you don’t offer postage abroad - with the Royal Mail website now it’s easy to calculate postage for overseas, so worth looking into - I’ve sold to the USA, Canada, Australia, and various European countries.
Your work is very interesting, historic and romantic, I think you need to identify your typical customer. If I were you i would locate and join groups on Facebook for Historical Role-play, Coz-Play, Game of Thrones nerds, whatever, there are many to seek out. Once a member you can subtlety start to drop links in to comment sections and draw people to your page. It will take a little while but should reward your effort in time. Good luck!
Thank you Sara, I altered the prices of my Hearts on Valentine day , no. 13 being the day of the goddess. !..but I hear what your saying, thank you for that, I will definitely check out postage for abroad too as I know I have been putting it off. !
