Art Chat March 2015

Ah, I remember now why I cannot do the plus account. I bank with Nationwide and because of the type of account I have, they said they don’t do direct debits and although we have a Barclays account, it would muck up household accounts for hubby…as Barclays is for the family stuff.
Never mind…Not that important…I can still list 1 a day for 365 days and it will only cost me £65.70…which isn’t a whole lot more is it?(and as I don;t usually list at weekends it is probably not much difference altogether. My calculator says that is £46.98 in total. (hopefully that is correct) …and of course, that would mean me painting 365 items a year, just for Folksy…mind you, this year already, I have painted 206 !!
Just done two more 7x5 acrylics and now every time I paint an acrylic I use up any left over blobs of paint on abstract aceos…great fun…lol

Evening everyone, thank you Stephie and Jac, much appreciated, will do some research, I have a few days off next week so if I get time might do a looksie.

Brenda, just to say the plus account although it says it’s a direct debit its actually a one off payment that is taken as a direct debit, you have to re-apply every year so there’s no danger of it taking it more than once. You could set up to transfer from your paypal into more than one account so could send money to both your accounts easily, I have 3 different ones set up and just transfer as I need to, as Stephie says it’s definitely worth it, for me I do list every day but I also re-list at least 20 items a day - you can re-list your whole shop everyday if you want to and that helps to keep your listings at the top of searches without affecting google searches as the URL stays the same. :).

I am being very dim here Max…how can folksy take money from my account as a direct debit if Nationwide told me that I cannot do direct debits?..I even asked Folksy if I could either make a one off paypal payment or send them a cheque and they said NO…perhaps they are hoping to get more money from me if I DON’T have a plus account…after all, I pay my fees on here from paypal, so it baffles me why I cannot make a one off payment of £45 to them.
I know that when I search for any of my paintings I am pages and pages down the list. It doesn’t seem to matter what words I use in the titles…and I change them all the time…I put the word Art down first and when I searched Art it took me ages to find one of mine…hey ho…
I just did a test and searched ART…(despite ART being in my title and the shop being called Gweddus Art) I got to 36 pages and not a single painting of mine to be found. I DID find myself on page 6 when I searched paintings and page 10 for aceos…
It is very obvious that those with plus accounts hog the front pages. There is one called Majestic art (and she is very good !!..lovely work) but there are pages and pages of her aceos before anyone else’s…so it is small wonder that some of us aren’t doing very well. THAT is why I was considering the plus account…

I’d contact nationwide again. I’ve never heard of a current account that can’t do direct debit. If you’ve got a cheque book you should be able to do direct debit for sure, you just need the 6 digit sort code and the 8 digit account number. You give those numbers to go cardless via folksy, and they claim the money from your bank.

Twitter #folksyhour was really good tonight, was all about product photography. It’s hard to keep up with all the tweets but admin are going to put a blog post together summarizing the q and a session.

Ah my mum has a principality account and she can’t do direct debits either, maybe you could persuade hubs will let you use the main account and you can just pay the money in, I have renewed my plus account three times now and they have only ever taken the money once I have applied so there is no concerns of them taking it again and again as I know that was a concern of yours, or maybe try Folksy again to see if they have made any recent changes.

I keep forgetting about twitter hour!

Had a lovely sale here sold one of my larger pastel works and a small one over t’other side so a very happy bunny this morning. Just listed this one

Thanks ladies, I will look into that and ask Nationwide again next time I go in there. You would think though that Folksy would accept a one off payment from paypal, since they already use paypal. Maybe it complicates their accountant…lol…
Max, that is stunning, just love the effects…it reminds me of those slithers of polished rocks that you can buy, where they cut a stone and inside are beautiful coloured layers.
Looks like being a beautiful sunny day…off to town shopping…maybe time in the Nationwide…we will have to see…
Have a good day everyone…

sorry,…not art related (unless you want to paint her)…this poor injured fox was on our patio this morning…

Poor injured beastie, is he/she badly injured?

Hopefully my phone/internet problems are sorted. The wire between the telegraph pole and the house was in urgent need of replacement. The engineer was at the house for about an hour and a half sorting it out. I’ll let you know tonight if I can get back online

Afternoon everyone

Hope you are all having a good day, good to hear your connection issues are getting resolved Margaret …

I have a plus account but since Ive had it my folksy sales have been very slow. Else where Art In Wax is doing great. So as I don’t have to pay here for listing I keep listing in the hope things will improve.

Today I have had a sort out and re-arrange in my shop. Some paintings are now being sold without mounts making them more affordable.

Poor fox, it has a wonderful face, I hope it wasn’t too injured. :frowning:

Jan, she has quite a large wound on her haunch…at least she was eating, so we can just hope.

Max…when your Plus account runs out…do you have to go to your bank to cancel it?
Or is like a new contract/form each year?
As you know I once had a direct payment taken from paypal and it was a nightmare…the company kept taking money without asking me and once paid to them I couldn’t get it back. IF Folksy only take it each year after you filling in the details again, then it might work.
Stephie…yes I have a cheque book …so it might work !!
Another question…what is a “Go cardless” account.??
The other worry (I have just looked at the paperwork)…it says does anyone else have to authorise a direct debit. I don;t think so but Hubby has signing rights and has his own debit card on this account. I wouldn’t want him to know that I was doing this as he is very against direct debits…aaargh !!

I haven’t shown my parrots for a while, so here’s where I’m up to with them. Only the bottom part to do now but it will still take me several weeks I should think.

Evening, I can’t see any pics tonight :(. Brenda yes it is a new contract every year and if you have a regular joint account you wouldn’t need both signatures to authorise, ours is joint account and either of us can authorise no problem. Go cardless is similar to paypal but they Process the payment from bank rather than credit or debit cards.

Glad your internet is sorted Margaret, hopefully I’ll be able to see pics later😄

Max, I have sent a message to admin so that they can answer some of my queries…thanks for YOUR help…sounds like it might be possible.

Good morning yeah I can see all your lovely paintings this morning, gorgeous sunflowers Hazel. Brenda, your very welcome  I adore that fox pose, might have a go at that with pastels, been on the lookout for an interesting fox to paint for my son who loves foxes and I need a new project for playgroup (art society). Tonight I am taking in some tiles and my inks to do a demo and a couple of members wanted to have a go so should be fun!

Good luck with that Max. I have already done this for another artist but IF you want to pm me with your email address, I can send you the picture of the fox and you will then be able to print it out and enlarge it etc. I actually took 4 pictures and can send them all to you to give you a better idea of how she looks.(you don’t need to paint my dirty patio windows…lol…)
I am waiting to hear back from admin , in answer to my few questions, re the Plus account, and if it is feasible, then I will try it for a year.
Waving to everyone…a beautiful warm and sunny day here…Spring is almost here !

My listing for today
