Art Chat thread March 2019

I had some good news today, one of my pencil drawings has been juried into a prestigious local exhibition. Glad to know my soppy taste is shared! This is ‘Bears on the Stairs’ [and a dog…]

Congratulations Helen, that’s awesome and well deserved!

Brenda I have the same trouble with photos. I take them on my phone and think they look great, then look at them on a different device and think they look rubbish. I take them with my fancy DSLR and edit them on my laptop, then look at them on my phone and think they look too dark. I think that’s what’s putting me off listing every day - I certainly have enough to list, but they’re not selling, and I don’t know whether that is the price, the photos or the lack of motivation. Perhaps when guide dog puppy Mickle moves on in April I’ll have more time and energy to devote to the task.

Anyway after a month of feeling “meh” about my art, I’m heading in a completely different direction…this one is titled “1653”

Helen! Love, love, love, love! Love!

Stephie…that is just fabulous…I love it.
I have tried many times to do abstract…bought loads of books on it …tried it and they ended up as a landscape…ha ha…how did THAT happen…lol…
Always good to try something different.
Do you remember Paul Bailey who used to be on here. He is on the dark side and doing well selling abstract/impressionist art…makes me think sometimes…

Impressive work @StephanieGuy. I admire abstract artists. Like Brenda @teabreaks, I’m not sure I’m wired that way myself. (Possibly far too shallow!).
Having said that, I reckon there is a line between slavish photo realism and hard core abstract. Most of us fit somewhere along the line.
A friend of mine does very good abstract art in monochrome pastel.

Thanks for the positivity! It takes courage to show something completely different. I’ve been experimenting with abstract in my sketchbook but have only just taken the plunge to paint a bigger piece and put it in my shop.

Thank you @teabreaks, @konyskiw, @StephanieGuy, @ChrisStoneArtist - I’m so pleased you like it.

@StephanieGuy your abstract painting is great! Well done for branching out. Trying something different is a good way to get your mojo back.

@teabreaks is this your local vicar, Brenda?!

This is beautiful, Brenda. Makes me think of wisteria.

(and by the way, these most recent two images show really nicely for me - so whatever settings you used, this does the trick!)

Morning  I’m in the throws of my June miniature magazine article and trying to get my scanner to play ball with a resolution of 2400 (needed for print because the painting is so small). It’s frustratingly slow, keeps crashing, and because I’m working in acrylics I need to wait a couple of hours before I can scan each step otherwise my scanner with be full of paint. HUFF HUFF HUFF!

It’s nice to see some lovely calming work here, just what I needed.

good luck with that Stephie…hope you can get it sorted…(have some pineapple…ha ha)

today I have gone large with an A4 painting. I don’t usually go this large as posting (if it sells) would involve a trip to town on the bus…
