After knocking my iron onto the ceramic floor and bending the tip yesterday, I’m on the lookout for a new one…
Although I do want a good steam iron, almost more important is that it’s a great dry iron that can cope with lots of pressing for when I’m sewing and particularly interfacing. My current one is a Tefal Ultimate Pure, which has fantastic steam and built in anti calc whatsists - it is a brilliant steam iron but frankly a bit pants as a pressing iron - just doesn’t always get hot enough.
I’m also open to a non-steam iron to use just for pressing as a 2nd. My budget is up to £100, but less would be much better!
I used to go through an iron a year. Last time bought the Oliso the one that lifts when you take your hand away, brilliant but expensive. For sewing invaluable.
Thanks Caroline. That’s one that ChatGPT recommended too and I’ve seen lots of sewing shops using them on YouTube vids, so assumed they must be good! I’ve just been having a look at steam presses as well, although they’re really expensive.
The best iron I have ever had is a John Lewis one, we went on holiday a couple of years back and I used the one in the cottage to iron a top, I went home and ordered one. I had always preferred Tefal but if my John Lewis iron breaks I will order another. Will have a look for the model number (it’s a black one) it’s also the cheapest iron I have ever owned.
I have a mini iron for Bearlescent especially for dolls clothes it’s a Duronic, really good and perfect for tiny things.
I have one of those for normal ironing Debby and agree excellent, a shame they did away with the automatic shut off though. Lee uses to iron paper record covers and forgets to switch off.
