Cloud Iridescence over Manchester

Anyone see them. I took these photos at 8am and it was spectacular.

Cloud iridescence aka a circumhorizontal arc is often confused for fire rainbows. While cloud iridescence does appear to be multi-coloured like a fire rainbow, this phenomenon originates from diffraction. The clouds must be 20,000 feet high with an exact amount of ice crystals present. It’s rare, and I feel really privileged to have seen it.

Fantastic photos I’ve never seen anything like that. Great inspiration for your glass sculptures. Lovely to see.

Just watched this on the local news/weather. Lots of people from my town sent in photos but I didn’t see it in real life - haven’t laft my house since last Saturday

I got some too, not as spectacular as yours but still super exciting to see, never seen rainbow clouds before in my life.

That’s absolutely exceptional!!

I saw those colours too…another time I saw a rainbow in the sky when it hadn’t rained previously at all!
But I often see some white, thick lines in the sky that take quite some time to clear…hhhmmm, I wonder if these are related to this kind of fancy colours in the sky, sudden change of weather, large difference in temperature within a couple of days and so much more…
