Colour choice

Is there a way of typing a colour into a listing without it being changed to a choice that is already there if the word you are trying to use is already in another choice. I’ve had this happen on several occasions and my choice just won’t stay in the box. This morning I was trying to type ‘plum’ into the colour choice but it kept changing it to ‘Victorian plum red’ which was someone else’s choice already in the list. My item is not Victorian plum red but I’ve just had to go with it because it won’t let me type plum. Is there a way of getting round this?

I thought, from memory but I may be wrong, that if you typed in the colour you want, then ignored the highlighted suggestions, it would accept your new colour . There must be a way, otherwise the “victorian plum red” would never have got added to the list!

That’s my experience too, just write the colour you want and press the comma and it should add it. I’ve just tried to add pink spotty as a colour and it added it so it should work.

Thank you - I’ve been on Folksy for 12 years and list items every day and I had no idea that you had to put a comma after the colour. I’ve always just pressed return and it works perfectly unless you want to add a colour with a word in it that has been used before. The comma makes all the difference! - well who knew!!!

When you type a colour and it brings up a drop down list with all of the suggestions, the first option will be highlighted, so if you press return it’s selecting that option. You can either use the down key to select an option from further down the list, or use the up key to get off the list, and then when you press return it should go with what you typed.

Or yes, just finish the tag with a comma instead of return.

Yes, the comma works but return doesn’t - I typed plum several times but each time it changed it back to Victorian plum red. I’ve had the same thing happen several times with other colours in the past. I had no idea about the comma. Problem solved but others may not realise that you have to put a comma after the colour.

I didn’t know that either! Usually I press every available key until something works, but now I know!

Martine @MaisyMuffin, I’m glad I was able to help! It’s amazing the things I’m still learning too!
