Good morning all, it’s wet and cold here today, I think Autumn has arrived here.
My first job was working in a cafe call Igglestones & Graves. The shop doorway had a sign up saying that it was the place that David Copperfield sat when he had come over the cliffs from St. Margaret’s bay.I worked there with my Mum for a while. I can’t remember how much I earned but I don’t think it was a lot.
Today I have a sparkly spider necklace, sorry to those who don’t like spiders I thought I’d get this one out of the way first.
I didn’t get to post anything yesterday, the day job intervened, but I’ve caught up on everyone’s news.
I was made to have piano lessons @SusanBettyArt and HATED it. The teacher was a horrible bully - couldn’t get out of going because my Dad used to drive me there. I begged to stop going, but was made to. Anyhow, one day I just couldn’t face it, so decided to run away and hide. I was probably about 10 years old. BUT I reasoned that they’d probably use sniffer dogs to find me, so the best thing to do would be to wade through the village fully clothed in the centre of the stream. In parts it was just over my ankles, but other parts up to my armpits and running pretty fast.
Well, my parents must’ve had three or four phone calls saying ‘Do you know your daughter’s in the stream at the bottom of my garden.’
Dad was able to track me down pretty easily and wasn’t pleased to have to tramp over the fields to haul me out of the river, and was even less pleased to have a sodden, sobbing, snotty child on the oxblood red, leather seats of the Morris Oxford…
Anyhoo, that stopped me going to piano lessons…
My studio view is the garage wall, Brenda @teabreaks but I can sea Isla, Jura and Gigha from my kitchen windows…
I have 7 sales to report, Anna @Fififoxi (and have picked up a commission outside of Folksy). I’ve just tipped iver 400 sales here now
Morning everyone.
I found my very first pay packet a while ago while we were clearing out some very old paperwork. I was earning £1.94 an hour in my Saturday job at a supermarket.
My first real job was at the Prudential in Nottingham working in broker accounts, I worked in insurance accounts in one way or another all through my career. That sounds really dull!
I have a relist of a Halloween card today.
My first job was a four week stint as a general dogsbody at the YHA in Buttermere during the summer before I went to uni…It was hard slog and, much to my surprise, when I came to leave I was charged for having stayed there! My first real job was as a French teacher in a secondary school in Preston, where as a good honours graduate four year trained I was in receipt of the princely sum of £1,100 a year. That was in 1969.
I’ll be back later with a new listing (I hope!)
Morning all.
Wet and chilly here today, feeling very autumnal. I’m back in long trousers and may even need socks!
Congrats on the best seller rankings Sarah and Sue @dotterypottery @SueTrevor and to all with sales!
Another leather planner relist today
congrats on your milestone Georgina @GeorginaCrawfordArt …I am waiting for two sales to reach my next goal.xx
Hello all
My first job was in a typing pool at Post Office Bonus Bonds in New Zealand (which is the New Zealand equivalent of Premium Bonds). We’d type up letters including doing shorthand and also do data entry on a big computer. When I came to England my first job was as a secretary at London Transport in the Solicitor’s Department at what was their headquarters, above St James’s Park station (a lovely old building) - starting as a temp then ended up staying a few years. I also worked at a law firm in Fleet Street as a document specialist.
Congratulations on your milestone, Georgina @GeorginaCrawfordArt - that’s a great achievement! Also congrats to those on the Best Sellers list.
Here’s a set of hanging decorations/gift tags from me today:
Well done on all your sales Georgina @GeorginaCrawfordArt x
Lovely View Brenda @teabreaks x

Good morning everyone (just) wet and miserable here and I am about to embark on the ironing.
Well done on sales and milestones. Really enjoying the first jobs what a mix.
Today a handmade sketchbook featuring one of my embroidered swatches.
ironing??? @PatchworkPackages …off to the naughty step right now !!!
Judith @judyrowleyart I had my interview for London Transport in those offices in St James’s Park…and as hubby also worked for London Transport, I STILL get discounted travel and part of his pension, without which I would be out selling my body as well as paintings x
Congratulations on the sales Georgina @GeorginaCrawfordArt and the huge milestone x
Congrats on your milestone Georgina @GeorginaCrawfordArt !
I usually have lots of ironing to do Elizabeth @PatchworkPackages , as I do not enjoy this particular “activity”, but we’ve been getting getting an hour of free electric every so often lately, so I actually run out of clothes to iron! Talking a bout motivation!
Hello
Sorry I haven’t managed a listing for days but I’m all caught up to here. Sorry to hear your sad news @islamaymakes
Hope it doesn’t turn out to be a scam Brenda @teabreaks always best to be cautious which you obviously are being.
I was caught out over the phone a few years back now and moved £3000 into a ‘safe’ account. All I can say is you don’t think you’d be so silly but they are incredibly clever and manipulative. I like to think I couldn’t be caught twice but I’m not certain I couldn’t be scammed again. I was very lucky and the bank managed to move it back the next day as the scammers hadn’t been quite clever enough to move the money on!
First job was delivering 138 free papers on a Thursday evening for £1.40. Then I worked at the local livestock market on a Saturday in the office. Ended up taking a baby goat home one day as it was being mistreated by the man who’d bought it so I marched out and bought it off him. Don’t think mum was too thrilled! Proper job was working as an actuary at Norwich union until I had children. Didn’t go back but used my qualification to work at home marking papers for others training as actuaries.
Congratulations on the milestone Georgina @GeorginaCrawfordArt spunds a bit of an extreme way to get out of piano lessons!
My first job was after school and on Saturdays on the medicines counter at Boots and my weekly pay was £1.48.
Then in the summers a friend and I would be dropped off in the middle of nowhere beside an A road to do traffic surveys. A parent would pick us up 12 hours later.
And one memorable year same friend and I worked in the local chicken gutting factory to earn enough money to go to the USA to visit my family. That paid well £45 for a 40 hour week.
I finally have a new listing…
Hi Everyone,
I am a bit late again as we had a power cut this morning, only for a few minutes but my computer went into meltdown, and when it decided to work again I had to scrabble around to remember/ find all the passwords for the various sites… it doesn’t help when my OH changes them without telling me!
Anyway a new listing for today… you might see a few of these in different styles over the next few weeks…
Happy Crafting
Afternoon all,
My first paid work was singing in the church choir for 25p every Sunday when I was 9 - which to be honest is about what my singing voice is worth! Then it was potato picking for a local farmer. First ‘real’ job was for the National Audit Office auditing the Governments expense accounts (Maggie was PM at the time) as my work placement year for college. I got that through the college - I think I was the only one they thought would pass the Positive Vetting! I wonder if I’m still under the Official Secrets Act…
Hope the sale turns out to be kosher @teabreaks - phone scammers are far too clever these days, I refuse to answer the phone if I don’t recognise the caller.
Congratulations on your milestone and piano escape, @GeorginaCrawfordArt
and on the best sellers list @dotterypottery and @SueTrevor and Mel @aquilacrafts for being goat rescuer extraordinaire!
One sale to add please Anna @Fififoxi
