If a colour is on trend sometimes I will use that colour but as for design, I just make what I want to make otherwise I don’t enjoy it.
I’ve often thought about using trends in my art, mostly the colour trends and I love this years Peach Fuzz colour, but often don’t know how to work it into my artwork, especially if it doesn’t lend itself to animals and nature. Also, I am quite a slow worker, so would end up on the tail end of the trend!
I too don’t necessarily follow trends. I do keep an eye out for Pantone colour of the year, which is announced I think even before the new starts I think?!?
I also read E**y’s trends reports just to see what’s trending In jewellery and home decor, but as yet fabric jewellery hasn’t been on trend yet😆. Now if Folksy did one - that would be great!! It would be more skewed to UK audiences!
If you’re curious, you can try Google Trends which are keywords that people are searching for right now. I think you can narrow the search to UK. Try putting in the title of your work and see if it has any trending keywords in it?
So, I usually create on a theme of what I like and what customers have liked/purchased. I’m still trying to work out my ideal customer personas (I definitely have more than one for my jewellery!)
I have accidentally created jewellery that fits a theme such as Bridgerton style etc, but that’s just because I love regency style and Jane Austen novels!
I have never done well following trends or colours. I have a colour palette I use and a good customer base that love the pastel vintage look. As Debby tend to be more Victorian/Regency etc rather than modern.
My stuff does not go out of fashion whilst Vintage Shabby Chic is in favour. The latest article I read here to stay. A lot of the fashion in furniture etc can remember when came out in Habitat and Heals the first time around.
Great Topic!
I haven’t but I’ve a feeling I probably should try it. I find it really difficult keeping to trends because my line of work is very niche and doesn’t really appeal to everyone, so if they’re are certain ways of applying new trends into my horror designs it might actually prove really useful to me. I should definitely try the latest colour trends and incorporate them in to my work.
