Does anyone understand Instagram?

How on earth can I have 854 views for the last few days when individual posts only show 30 or 40?

There’s a spike about 4 days ago and I can’t work out why. I’m hardly an influencer with my 155 followers

All social media is a mystery to me if I’m honest, I only use Instagram now but they change things so often on there and it’s so obvious they just want you to spend your life just scrolling that I really can’t be bothered with it. Hopefully someone can come and give you an answer.

Did anyone share you post. They can have a huge Influence

As Joy said it could be that someone else has shared a post. I noticed yesterday I had a few new followers then someone (new) mentioned one of my embroidered bears being featured by love community, when I had a look another Folksy seller had tagged me and they had featured my bear.

Also…. Social media is also a mystery to me, I get by OK but that’s it

If you tap on the section that tells you how many views you had over last 30 days it will take you to a breakdown of the numbers etc. That should be able to give you some more insights. X

I’m no wiser. I can see a big spike in Views on one particular day, but individual posts show only tens of views, and it wasn’t even a day when I posted anything - so what they were looking at is a mystery to me.

Just checked my own and it says 3.7k views in the last 30 days.Admittedly i do have 1,305 followers but even so that is quite a lot of views. I have done a couple of little reels recently which have been shown to far more non followers than followers. Of course you may have a post with mega views which is an old one you are not including in your count check as it is so old,. just something which has recently caught attention.
I did do a reel a few days ago with some bits of millefiori i bought and that has 833 views…(Did quite a happy dance when i saw those views) because i tagged the millefiori maker and she shared it and got lots of views too. That 833 goes a long way to making up a monthly 3.7k.

And I tagged an NT place we visited and that got shared a little bit too … it all helps.

Did you do stories too….. you can’t see the record of those to count the views…….. and do you share to threads / FB … those views count too.

I use the business suite to schedule posts to both Fb/insta. I think the last one I did was a video rather than photo so it called it a Reel. When I share from insta I don’t really know where it goes I have options to share to friends or to my feed and pick at random. I ought to read up on it …

The idea of it being a historical post is a good one, I’ll have a look back.

Thanks Joy.

Hi, I’m on Instagram and I think it means that 854 people looked at your post but only 40 pressed the heart button

I don’t think so… only a couple pressed  , that shows up separately.

I’ve discovered there’s a difference between reach and views but that doesn’t account for it either.

I’l write it off as a mystery…. But a good one.

Did you look at where it says ‘view insights’ it shows a breakdown there. I will have to pop over and look at mine to see if there were any spikes around the same time

Does anybody know what the new ‘repost’ button does? It doesn’t seem to repost to grid or stories?

Google knows

Beware. If you hit it it immediately reposts….. and ends up on your own page under the same button and i have no idea how to delete it

Fiddled about and think i have unreposted the post i didnt mean to repost if you see what i mean… it was a random rather lovely mosaic bird  Not trying that again.. over to someone else to mess up their IG page:)

Anything you repost will appear under the ‘repost’ tab (screenshot below) rather than on your main grid.

If someone reposts one of your posts it is meant to help with visibility and engagement as the original post reaches a wider audience - a recent post of mine that was reposted (I think about 5 times) saw a noticeable increase in views and interaction etc.

It’s also a way for people to share content without making content…things they feel their audience will be interested in.

Ahha - I clicked it and nothing seemed to happen, thanks for explaining ! Maybe that’s at the root of my mystery.

I accidentally reposted someone’s reel the other day and I thought Oh no that’s going to mess up my page. After I saw that it doesn’t show on my grid, I realised that it’s a great idea.
There’s been so many times I’ve wanted to share someone else’s post without it being a permanent addition to my page. I usually do it through stories but now I’m going to use this function instead.

It feels a little bit like retweeting something on twitter/X (not that I can face going there any more :smiling_face_with_horns:)

You can turn this off if it’s not wanted, I does give you exposure if someone reposts your post but also you do lose control over your content.

Not sure I like it or not

That explains it then. Thanks Alison. It sounds like a good idea then. Maybe looking through people reposts will help with finding new accounts and makers to follow too
