I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that very few people seem to be seeing my posts on Facebook and Instagram. I used to get about 100 views on each post and now I get about 20. Likes are coming from my regular customers and from friends, whereas a while ago, I would get likes from a whole range of people, which makes me think that my posts just aren’t getting seen by anyone outside the regular circle. My views on Folksy have dropped from hundreds to 30 odd - mainly because of the lack of views on social media. Instagram have also stopped automatically posting on my Facebook business page. Does anyone know if there anything I can do to get seen by more people without having to pay for promotion?
My reach has been going down too Martine, it seems to have been a slow steady thing though, not sudden. It’s becoming hard to think of things to boost it, but I am determined never to pay for promotion on Facebook, so I’ll be interested in replies too. xxx
It’s hard to know what it is that triggers something getting seen. Most of the things I put on Pinterest get about 10 views but a few of them have had thousands and I have no idea why.
I am finding getting more views via groups ie Hampshire Arts & Crafts. Maybe because they have a lot of buying public on there. Agree on my business page things have gone quiet. I think they keep altering things to make it harder to get free promotion. In the hopes we will pay.
Instrgram did change the automatic poasting to facebook witch i also found supper fustrating you can once its poasted hit eddit and then go down to poast to other platforms and then select facebook o would sugests doing a few of the ones that it hasnt sent over at the same time to trick facebook intothinking there has been extra activety on there
I dont know how to change it back to automatickly poast to facebook again if anyone has worked it out please let me know
Thanks - it’s all a bit of a mystery as to how the algorithms work.
Same here, just the regulars seeing me. I have tried advertising on Facebook, perhaps a year inbetween each advert. After both times I said never again. The first time got nowhere and the second also got nowhere AND the money got mucked up too - spending more than I’d agreed to spend. Can’t remember the specifics now only that I promised myself NEVER again. Last week, I must’ve been told I could have £20 free ads every day via email - one day I think I was told 4 times. I unsubscribed to notifications but still odd ones coming through. So be warned, don’t start!
Yes facebook changed their algorithm (again) in the middle of May
Thanks @SashaGarrett for that info. Although I am not on social media, I am thinking of joining facebook (only thinking) the information contained in the article is very informative.
HI All
I’ve been a bit rubbish at posting recently & I always find if I miss a couple of days my reach on posts goes right down & takes a while to build up again. I’ve started creating posts in FB Business rather than on IG recently which does seem to automatically post to both FB & IG.
Having had a read through of the article @SashaGarrett posted, it looks like we need to start doing more commenting on each others post to try & boost them (but only if we can find them in the first place ) Good luck!
Cheers Lou
Thanks Sasha - very useful to know x
Thanks @SashaGarrett . Very interesting to know.
I don’t know about everyone else but I have struggled to find content for my posts during the last year because I’ve been nowhere and done nothing of any interest! Folksy Friday has been a Godsend, because at least that’s one day of the week sorted.
I’ve spoken before about Folksy’s own Facebook page, so sorry if I’m repeating myself (you can blame my age ) but here’s some food for thought.
The Folksy Facebook page has 69K likers and 78K followers and every day they put out some very nice content in support of the website and Folksy sellers. I’m not sure how many shops we actually have (anyone?). Yesterday there was a gorgeous photo with a special offer from this week’s featured shop, and there were 19 likes and just 2 comments. Followed by a lovely collage for Picnic day (credits for 8 shops), which got 21 likes and only 3 comments from sellers.
I have to be honest, I think it’s a pretty poor show. If we are thinking about how to bring more customers to Folksy and giving each other more support on social media, I believe this is where it should start. A healthier plant will bear more fruit.
Having said that, I’m putting my shop in holiday mode in a minute and won’t be taking part in anything for 2 weeks , but I’m looking forward to renewing my plus account in July and getting stuck in!
I know what you mean! Definitely love Folksy Friday and any other challenges (like the 12 days of Folksy near Christmas)!
It’s all a bit of a mystery but I have 2 Instagram accounts with corresponding Facebook pages. I recently discovered that it will only allow me to automatically post from Instagram to Facebook for one of those pages. When I tried to do the same for the second page it was stopping me doing it for the first one.
Yes same happened to me last year, suckered into a so called free ad which i ended up paying for with zero results. I will not pay for fb promotion again. I don’t really understand hoe instagram works but noticed that the auto posting which you’re meant to get with business suite doesn’t happen! Everything has dropped off in terms of reach. Sometimes a post gets hundreds, then another barely anything, no rhyme or reason and v frustrating
