Does this seem odd to you?

Hi all. I think this is my first time posting (I may have posted before but if I did it’s so long ago I don’t remember! :upside_down_face: ).

Just wanted to get other people’s take on this. Towards the end of November I had a few sales within a week. All for the same low cost type of item. All heading to the same city but different addresses in different areas. All different names but one name in particular stood out to me and when I googled it, there were 0 results for anyone with that first and last name combination.

One of the others gave an address with no street name, just a number, city and postcode. I figured out the street name from the postcode and emailed the buyer to double check but didn’t get a reply so I sent it anyway. The address looked like it might be a shared office space. Another looked like it might be going to a restaurant or a building adjacent to a restaurant.

The one with a weird looking name had a legitimate residential address but it was returned to sender, although Royal Mail haven’t ticked the box on the label they attached to say exactly why.

All the payments cleared through Paypal but something about these few transactions feels weird to me. I’d be really interested to hear anyone else’s thoughts about this or if you’ve experienced something similar.

Also, do I refund the one that was returned or wait for the seller to ask for a refund?

Thanks in advance.

Under Folksy.com buyers term and conditions the purchaser must notify the seller within two weeks that they intend to return the item for a refund. They don’t have to give a reason under the ‘Distance Selling Regulations’ which covers Internet sales. The seller doesn’t have to give a refund until they have received the goods back. Hope this helps you.

I would email this to Folksy who can look at the address details and ask what they think.

Looks very odd indeed.

Email Folksy and also change your passwords on PayPal and your bank accounts.

This is a ploy often used to test an account, multiple addresses are another flag. Have you checked Google street to see what the properties look like.

I had a case on eBay, Lee bought an LP not the same as the image and in dreadful condition, returned and EBay refunded. The seller got very nasty. At the time I had some Swarovski crystal selling on EBay, he said what if I bought it and returned smashed, sent the email to EBay as harassment. Then got a message from another man felt off. Spoke to an old colleague deleted all items for sale. When I checked the other ‘buyer’ lived in the street parallel to the original seller. Stupid or what. He then messaged why had I ended my listings, said due to a situation had reported to the police. Went very quiet.

Due to my work years ago always question things like this as red flags are there.

Sounds very off to me too, I have heard that this is a way people test a cloned credit card. Making multiple small purchases. I had my card cloned last year and this is what they did. Fortunately my credit card company were on the case as I was aboard a ship in the middle of the North Sea at the time and the card was with me in the safe!

Definitely report to Folksy, but I would also get in touch with Paypal before refunding as if they do find it to be a cloned card they will claim it back anyway so you might end up paying back twice.

Thanks everyone. You all seem to be of the same mind as me, that this is weird. The addresses are miles apart but within the same city and they’re all legitimate addresses. The one that was returned to me this weekend was a legitimate residential address and it was the name that made me wonder.

These are among my first few sales on Folksy and I’ve never experienced anything like it anywhere else before so it’s been a bit strange! I’ll email Folksy and let them know what’s happened.

Hi Cathryn @cathrynworrellartillustration if you send a message to support@folksy.co.uk with the individual order details, we can take a look into it for you.

Thank you Sarah.

I’ve already sent a message via the contact form, which I presume is delivered to the same place? If not, please let me know and I’ll resend directly by email.

It might be off, but on the other hand it might be a group of friends or colleagues who have just discovered you…
