Downgrade from Folksy Plus account?

Hi, I have had one sale in 3 months since opening on Folksy which isn’t going to justify my paying £5.00 per month for Folksy Plus indefinitely. I only chose the plus account in order to copy stuff in bulk from the ‘dark side’, which I have done, and it saved some time searching for photos etc. Even though I am still trying to learn how to use Instagram in order to improve traffic to my shop, I don’t envisage making and listing loads of new items on a regular basis (especially as sales are so slow) so, apart from free relists, the plus account doesn’t seem practical for me at the moment. Sorry for the preamble but can I downgrade from Folksy Plus to a normal account? This may be a stupid question, but I can’t seem to find info on whether I can or how to do this? And will I have to pay anew for each listing or will that be covered by what I have already paid? Any advice welcome. Thanks, Becca

It used to be “too” easy to cancel your Plus subscrition, so I used to dip in and out. The last time I cancelled, I had to do it via my online bank account. If you relist everything before you cancel, the listings should stay in your shop for four months, I think. Hope that helps, and I hope your sales improve. I’ve had my shop here for 11 years now and had ups and downs. It’s a “down” for me at the moment…

Go to my account, shop settings, plus account. You can then cancel from there.

After cancellation anything listed or relisted after cancellation will be charged at 15p plus vat per item. You can also only have 5 product images per listing.

I didn’t know that!

For me with over 400 items plus is a no brainer. Plus I relist a page each day To keep the shop near the top of new items.

Thank you Christine @coatimundi, and thanks for the favourites too! Hope things improve for your sales as well. We must struggle on!!

Thanks Caroline, that seems straight forward. I may mull it over for a little while, but reassuring to know that if I relist everything, hopefully I won’t lose out.

I think it’s a great option for those with 50+ listings, but mine are still in the 20s and I always struggle to fill all my photo slots anyway. 5 photos would be more manageable for me, but a shame you lose featured listings.:sun_with_face: (Whoops, just realised I’ve hit 30 listings!)

I do remember someone listing all the stats about how many items you need to have in your shop to make it viable having the plus account (but I can’t remember who it was or how many items it was - so I’m not much use am I?..lol)

I think with the plus account though, it does encourage you to fill your shop up and especially coming up to Christmas, you can really get lots of seasonal stock in there at no extra cost. You’re doing really well getting 30 items in your shop so far and don’t forget you can re-list as many items as you want per day.

@Bimblebird me again :))
don’t forget to relist everything in your shop daily with Plus
one thing that might be worth thinking about is what you want to focus on selling. All your work is perfectly saleable, it’s just that it’s a little eclectic in terms of you have some jewellery, some bags, and the lovely felt animals. Maybe try to focus on one of those, perhaps the jewellery? I reckon people expect to see one or two types of thing in a shop. The leaf jewellery is really nice, why don’t you try making a fuller range? It does need promotion of course. My sales are still a little slower than I’d like, but I am also going to go through my listings and tweak them when I have time.

Hi Sarah. Thanks for your comments. I think someone said that 100 was a sweet spot? I would like to make/list more, but it’s hard to get motivated with so few sales. I’m working on some new stuff and will have another think then.

Hi @SulikoSoul. It’s difficult to know - some say diversify, some say specialise! I wanted to sell different options as jewellery is a super saturated market and if I have other skills/items, why not sell them? My other version of this shop on the dark side has done ok selling a variety of stuff, though I haven’t listed regularly or a lot. I also have a shop specialising only in jewellery on there and it’s not doing great! Just got to keep going, but think I will probably downgrade from plus at some point.

This might sound flippant…but… I always think back to my craft fair days when I would pay £45 for a DAY and often not take much money…so to me the yearly fees on folksy are more than worth the money ,with or without many sales…
It is like groaning at the price of something like a chocolate bar…sometimes nearly £1 and gone in a few seconds…yet we don’t think about it…I consider what is little more than £1.50 a week Folksy fees to be excellent value when I think about it…and could possibly bring in good returns. It is all a matter of perspective…and who knows when your next customer will appear…yesterday, I sold an item on folksy that had been listed here for FOUR YEARS.!!
Years ago , people would not think twice about paying 50p - £1 to advertise something for sale in a newsagents for just one week.

It’s me and my calculator again. The plus account is equivalent to 334 listings (or relistings) per year - that’s 28 listings (or relistings) per month (or if you only plan to relist when they are due to expire ~111 items in your shop). So if you were planning on relisting every thing in your shop once a month then the plus account makes financial sense (especially if you finish bringing everything over from the darkside) however (based on the current size of your shop) if you only plan to relist when items are due to expire and only add a few new items per month then the plus account is not financially worth it and switching to pay as you go will work out cheaper (just remember to relist everything before you opt out of Plus). You can always reassess things in a few months time and if you decide to start increasing stock levels in the run up to Christmas then you can opt back in for the plus account.

Hi Sasha, always very grateful for you and your calculator! Yes, that’s what I’m thinking too. If I suddenly have a making frenzy, I can always switch back!

Hi Brenda, that happened to me too. 2 items I’d had in my (dark side) shop for ages both sold within a few weeks of each other. You just never know!

Hehe - I thought it was you Sasha that had the stats - I didn’t want to tag you and then have had it completely wrong! You are always the fountain of all knowledge on here - I should never have doubted it

Tbh, this is how I look at it now. Cheaper selling on line from comfort of your own home.

Would never downgrade ever. Folksy plus is something you don’t come across these days. SallyAnn

I agree with Sally Ann and Amber very cheap in the scheme of things. Know I would never leave unless I give up crafting.
