Emergency Alert Test Sunday 23rd 2023 April

Don’t forget the emergency alert test on Sunday , would hate for anyone about to shovel a fork full of roast chicken into their mouths and the alarm starts shrieking.

We have had the air raid sirens at the NATO base go off twice this week, if that starts along with the phones, Lee’s tinnitus will go mad!

4 Chinooks gone over this morning, they have been having drills at Cut Mill.

Where is Cut Mill Caroline? Because during the week we had two groups of three Chinooks go over, it was awesome. We often have the Red Arrows go over, right across the middle of the country, but haven’t seen the Chinooks like that before.

Cut Mill is just down from Elstead near Godalming.

We get the Chinooks any time of day or night from the RAF base. They are noisy as just skim the rooves of the houses.

Thank you for the reminder, I should probably keep my phone with me or it will be squawking for ages.

And for anyone who needs to keep their mobile a secret you can turn the emergency alert messages off.

Emergency for what? What is the test for?

The test is to make sure the emergency text system works. The emergency text system is for alerting people if they are in an area that is at risk of wildfires/ flooding / terrorist incident etc.

I don’t have a smart 'phone so I am expecting a carrier pigeon at 3pm.

3.45 and we’re all still waiting. Loads on twitter saying they haven’t received it either.

Happened on my phone (and on my OH’s work phone which he’d left somewhere for me to find as he’s gone out). Wonder if its a network/ carrier thing.

Don’t know. Me and hubby are with smarty which piggy backs off 3, my stepson is currently at my house, he’s with o2 and none of us received it.

Probably not a network thing then. I’m sure they are trying to figure it out and this is the reason we test stuff - better to iron out the issues before we need to properly use it.

Wonder how they’ll know who didn’t receive it and who turned it off? I guess we’ll be hearing about it on the news.

Didn’t know about the Emergency Alert Test today until I heard a very loud siren noise…Couldn’t make out where it was coming from as I don’t have a smart phone. Anyway, it was my new Samsung tablet and I just followed the instructions to find out what it was all about…

We forgot all about it and it went off while we were driving, we thought something was wrong with the car until we remembered. :grinning:

I have a Samsung tablet (and phone) and didn’t get it on my tablet either.

We had a racket at 14:59, they were early. It is something to do with suppliers we are with Sky who piggy back O2.
The air raid siren went off at the same time as well as 3 Chinooks zooming over. We certainly got a warning!

I didn’t get one. Now I’ll never know if we have a flood

Three have announced there was a problem.

I also see on twitter some had their phoned turned off but as soon as they turned it on the alert came through. Bit worrying for those in abusive relationships etc who were advised to either turn the alerts off or turn their phones off.

Neither me or my husband got the alert and we are both on the Three network - it seems that a lot of people on Three didn’t receive it. Hope it works better if we have a genuine emergency!!
