@petalspassions I have very few sales and do not pay yearly. I pay every four months £7.50 and update plus add items during this month. Just make sure to cancel plus before the month is over or you pay again for the next month. I feel this justified me being on folksy. I like this group and how folksy is, just need/like more sales.
@TheOldButton thank you for including my painting in your lovely board
That sounds a great, cost effective way to do it Marjan. @Marjansart
@petalspassions I don’t think there is a time frame for when you will get noticed. The plus account is only worth paying for if the math adds up, there are very few other perks. It was originally introduced for people with supplies shops, so for quantity listings. It has evolved a bit now, but so has the cost.
Do you do craft fairs? I hand out a lot of business cards at fairs, and that brings quite a bit of custom to my shop.
Thank you all once again for being so supportive! X
Happy Anniversary @ButterflyThistleCreativeCrafts.
Feel better soon, Max @MaxPringJewellery
I have loved you all to here, but I really should stop boring you with relists. I’m about to get my needle out!
Have a lovely time at the stitch festival Mel @aquilacrafts
Wow, 60 years congratulations to your parents and have a lovely day yourselves Lorraine @LilacDaisy
Joss @XStitcherJoss I hope you feel more yourself soon, I have to admit there are days I feel like 90! And today is one of those days
Marilyn @petalspassions doing the folksy plus for a year gives you 2 free months. I’m signed up for a year but it is worth it for me, I like not having to think about it. I think if I wasn’t selling as much I would do a pay by listing or the plus account every 4 months. It all depends if you can afford to pay and risk losing the money if it doesn’t work out!
Giving up on sales of my easter decorations, as it’s cutting fine to arrive before Good Friday anyway. Today I’m relisting this pack of five birthday cards:
@petalspassions as Deborah said, Plus membership is a numbers game - is it worth it compared to just paying as you list? Like others, I’ve dipped in and out over the last few years using the monthly plan, but decided to go for annual this time to encouage me to list more (now I’m fully retired from day job and have more time).
In terms of getting found - I think next month’s Folksy event is about being found in searches, I’m sure many of us will find that useful. (I appreciate it’s only for Plus members, but people can just pay for the month if they think it’s worth it). But in the meantime you may want to have a look at your product titles, and try putting different key search terms in the first few words. Apparently, your item will still be in the search results if the words are included later in the title, but if there are loads of similar items it may be on page 10 - behind other items that are less relevant but have the “searched for key word” closer to the front.
Not sure if people are interested, but I tested it out on my Kids Apron Easter Egg Hunting Gnomes - Reversible to Red Riding Hood. If a buyer searches for Kids Aprons (words 1 & 2), it’s right at the top of page 1. But if they are searching for Easter Egg, it shows up on page 5 - words 3 and 4 don’t do as well in such a popular product area. And when I swopped the words around, it had flipped the other way, (you need to wait 10 mins for it to update in the algorithm).
Conversely, a search for Red Riding Hood brought up so few results that it doesn’t matter where the words are in the title - it’s still on the front page. Problem is, I don’t think many buyers search for Red Riding Hood. But its useful info once someone has clicked on the listing.
So I’m thinking I need to put more common search words at the front of my titles, while less searched terms (niche) and general info can go further back if necessary.
It’s a really difficult one to answer Marilyn @petalspassions. I’ve had my shop for 12 months and I’ve sold 110 items over that period but I know I’ve been lucky. So far I have managed to cover the cost of the annual fee but I guess my items so far have been low cost high volume and if I had to pay per listing it would have cost me far more than the annual fee. It’s a numbers game and I think you need to see if you can cover your costs better paying per listing, paying monthly or annually.
I’ve also been thinking about tags and titles to get items noticed and I remember I contacted Folksy when I first started out. Here’s what they advised:
You might be interested to read this blog post about how search works on Folksy:
The search results on Folksy work on a kind of points system, which currently considers title, tags, category, subcategory, description, section and shop name. When a customer searches for a particular word or phrase on Folksy, the algorithm will give each listing a score depending on the whether that word or phrase appears in those places and the weighting given to each. An item’s score determines where it is shown in the list of results. The aim is always to give a customer the best results possible.
The system is designed to reward good listings, both in terms of visual and written content. There are lots of things you can do to improve your ranking in search engines.
Keep going Marilyn… @petalspassions …I have been here for over 14 years…not exactly sure …and it has taken me a LONG time to build up a following…I have always paid for the plus account because to me it takes the place of paying for a website and I don’t smoke or drink…or hardly ever go out or buy clothes, so even if my sales slumped I would consider it money well spent…and something that I enjoy…it all depends on how you view it…is it a hobby or a cottage craft , or a full blown business?
also, remember that there are extra benefits of the plus account…being able to move items around and also having items featured at the top of your shop x
Happy Anniversary @ButterflyThistleCreativeCrafts
Wow to those shoes Sue @SueTrevor
Wow SNOW? Caroline…are you in the North Pole???..we DID have some hailstones earlier but mostly blue skies and sunshine…
Thanks for your reply Hilary @kokoblue and the link I will give that a good read, I have covered my costs for the year. Perhaps I’m a bit impatient . Thanks for your reply Brenda @teabreaks . Yes I will keep going and stay with Folksy Plus as its nice to dip into the thread and catch up with you all. Mine is a hobby, I am retired but also supporting my husband with the antique shop so am keeping busy. I have so much fabric in my craft room and that is why I decided to open a shop with Folksy and enjoy using the fabric that I have. I knit and have had try at crochet and make cards for myself. My trouble is I can’t stick one thing!! Anyway thats it for now and thank you to the others that have replied. Marilyn x
