Sarah @dotterypottery I feel your pain… went through it with my Mum & Dad.
Very long story very very very short (I live Warrington they lived Conwy) … Dad had a bad stroke Oct 19 so I was going and staying with them every weekend to help, then Mum got very poorly just as we went into Lockdown 1 and sadly passed away. Dad was unable to look after himself. My Brother and I took it in weekly shifts to stay and look after him all through 2020 and the various lockdowns (we did get him to a stage when we could leave him alone for 3 days a week as we set up a lot of aid & help until he started to detoriate again)… working from home meant we could do this. Finally got him moved over near here in Jan 21 into a care home. But passed away in the April.
But you are right… nothing prepares you for it and towards the end the pressure & stress was starting to affect our health, both mentally & physically, we where both near breaking point

Just had a few of the planes and helicopters from the jubilee and birthday celebration fly over our house and could see some in the distance, as they had obviously fanned out. Only managed to capture these two as they flew away.
Happy Jubilee Day! It’s a lovely day here in Bolton, but I must catch up on The Sewing Bee before I found out who left!
I feel your pain re looking after elderly relatives @dotterypottery like you say, you have more energy looking after little ones - nothing prepares you for it! It’s nearly 8 years since my dad died and 18 months since my mum and brother died. I miss them so much, but I’m determined to enjoy life now I have freedom from caring, you never know what is around the corner. It’s so hard.

Hi all - can’t believe that I’m playing catch up at the start of the month! The day just got away from me yesterday. I just found out that my mum needs both a knee and hip replacement so I’ve been trying to work with her to build a plan - she’s super independent so I’m expecting a tussle when it comes to her accepting help!

Just made my husband out the flags up as I forgot to ask him, only noticed as we pulled out of the drive for a little wander in a pretty Cotswold village- nothing like a bit of British pride to cheer up your day!
