We thought it would be useful to give you some stats on the Folksy Local Markets that took place over 27 & 28 November. Thank you so much to our truly fantastic Local Team Captains who worked so, so hard and to everyone who took part, sent us content to share and joined in with the activities on the markets and across social media.
We really enjoyed the markets and saw a definite spike in sales and traffic. Over the weekend we saw a 102% increase in sales compared with the weekend before, with more than twice as many items sold, and 53% more sales than the weekend after (4-5 December).
Despite everyone’s hard work (and the 75 press releases we sent out about the event!), sales during the weekend were lower than the same weekend in 2020 (which we almost have to count as a rogue year) - but 143% higher than the same weekend in November 2019.
Saturday was busier in terms of visits and sales than Sunday.
The total number of clicks from Tresstle (where the markets were hosted) through to Folksy shops over the weekend was 8,771. The average number of clicks on each stall was 43, the minimum was 3 and the highest number of clicks was 167.
The ratio of clicks through to Folksy shops from Tresstle was high compared to other events hosted on Tresstle, which is great as it indicates that the quality of makers and the traffic coming to those stalls was high.
Most of the top-performing makers tended to have a discount or free postage but many of them didn’t.
Around 6% of traffic to Folksy over the weekend came from the market pages, and markets generated 20% of all sales on Folksy over those two days.
Our top-performing social media post over the weekend was a reel, which was watched by over 13,000 people, and the second-best post was also an Instagram reel that was watched by almost 10,000 people.
Here is the breakdown of page views per market:
East England & the East Midlands - 3,272 views
North England & Northern Ireland - 2,927 views
South England & Channel Islands - 3,708 views
Scotland - 1,879 views
Wales & the West Midlands - 3,366 views
All in all, we were really pleased with the event in terms of generating traffic, sales, engagement and, importantly, a sense of community!
We hope those are useful insights, as we know many people are still unsure about online markets, how they work and whether they are worth doing
