Thank you so much to everyone who took part in the Seconds Sunday. We thought it was a great event and we are very grateful to everyone who listed, shared and bought something! We felt the quality of products was incredibly high and saw lots of buzz around it on social media.
We would love to hear how it went for you, if there is anything we can do to make it better/easier to take part, and what other kinds of events you would like us to run (the next one will be our Spring Fresh Market in May for new product launches). Please do leave your comments below.
Here are some stats from the event:
The event had more than 11,000 views
The busiest day was Sunday (as expected) but we still had almost 4,000 views on Saturday, largely generated by our preview newsletter to subscribers
We had over twice as many more orders on Folksy as the weekend before
Revenue from sales was up 133% on the previous weekend
Revenue over the weekend was 26% higher than the last Seconds Sunday in 2023 and 10% higher than the first Seconds Sunday held in October 2022.
210 sellers took part in the event
41% of sellers who took part sold something
33% of items sold over the weekend were in the Seconds Sunday event
All in all, we’re super pleased and hope you all got something out of it too
I had three sales over the weekend and another on the Monday so I was quite pleased. These special events do seem to bring new customers to the site so please do continue to run them!
The thing that would make it so much easier to take part would be fixing the ‘All’ search - once I’ve found an item I’d like to be able to (a) see what its status is, I’m fed up of accidentally editing an old version of something, especially when removing ‘seconds sunday’ from the title and then finding it was a last year’s item and I’d sold it anyway; and (b) have the option to copy it, not just edit it. I sell a lot of very similar but unique items and rarely just edit and relist (because that changes what is in my sales records and presumably in the customer’s records too) so it would be brilliant to be able to use the nice quick ‘All’ search to find something rather than having to trawl through the sold/hidden/expired items.
Anyway I digress, I enjoyed taking part, the Canva graphics were handy and the event page looked nice, so thank you for that and I’ll look forward to the next one!
@folksycontent thanks for the update, I just picked jp on the event you are running in May for new product launches, I am just designing and prototyping a new woodland rabbit which if all is ok will also include a smaller version as a letterbox gift. Should I wait until May to launch it or if I do it now would it still be included ? Thank you
Well done for organising such a successful event and thank you!
I put 3 pieces in and sold one of them, which I was delighted with. Interestingly, the buyer was a returning customer of mine rather than anyone new and she probably saw it on my Instagram post, but my stats certainly flew up over the period too.
One thing for next time would be to let buyers know that the ‘event page’ listings are limited to three items per seller, but they should head to the seller’s shop to see more.
It would be interesting to know , out of the 41% of sellers who sold something , how many of those sales were to new customers visiting rather than other Folksy sellers.
I didn’t take part in the event (too many commitments this February) but I’m currently recording the sales for the ‘February daily listing challenge thread’ and I noticed there was an ‘uptick’ in sales during the sales weekend and for a few days afterwards. As February is usually rather a slow sales month ‘Seconds Sunday’ does seem to have given it a bit of a boost and I suspect events like these have a wider positive impact on Folksy sales generally.
I sold 3 items as seconds, and 1 at full price over the weekend so I was pleased. My stats also shot up.
I like the fact its nice and easy to participate in, with just adding a tag and a couple of words to the description and having the Canva templates helps with promoting, and gives the event a uniform feel which I like.
The most cost effective way with sales items for me in the past was always to have a small basket at events, but as I do so few of these now, I have participated in the last 3 Folksy Seconds Sales, and always sold some stuff.
There are always a few things every year with me that just don’t sell ! and I would rather get at least the cost of my materials back than have them hanging around. I get fed up seeing some of them! So I like this event once in a while.
I really enjoyed the event (my first) and will definitely take part again. I had 3 sales. 2 of those were for multiple items and one of them was a large order for a mix of sale and non sale items, so very definitely worth doing. And, as someone else said, it was a good opportunity to clear some of those imperfect and end of line products, that otherwise sit around in my studio, and recoup the cost of them.
I also did a bit of shopping myself, both from sellers that were new to me and that I’ve previously bought from.
I would have loved to take part as I have a few sample items that would fit the bill. However IMO there wasn’t enough notice about the event. I’ve checked my emails & there was a little note about it buried at the bottom of the seller newsletter on 15th Jan (which appeared to be all about signing up to the Plus account). There’s been so much stuff recently pushing the Plus account that I didn’t bother to read all the way down! The first actual email was the weekend before the event which didn’t give me enough time to get photos etc. done (I have a day job).
Could we maybe have a calendar for the year with the planned event dates please?
For me personally, the the main bonus at the moment with the plus account would be the events as I don’t have time for all the webinars / talks etc. I have limited time to spend on my business & I’d rather be making pretty things with most of that time & spending the rest promoting. It was a shame to miss the event just because there wasn’t enough notice to get ready.
I had two sales and a marked increase in views and favourites in my shop - yes I agree that these events that Folksy create brings lots of people to the site!!
For this weekends ‘Perfectly Perfect’ do we need to add a Tag? Last time it was Seconds Sunday, will it be the same. Just been adding a lot of listings, now wondering whether I have to go back and amend them?
