Just a note to say I find the latest trend on Facebook to tag posts with @ followers to be Spam and I have unfollowed every page which has used it .
It basically sends a notify to Every follower of the page which used it every time it is used. So my notification list is filled with ‘trees’ meaning I can’t find the ‘wood’, the notifies I want and quite possibly need to see.
I think the people using it are experimenting. I can only advise they don’t. I do not require a notification every time someone posts on their page. Page feed is for that, @ followers is not … it is a signal, a spam warning really, to me to unfollow the page.
It has been around for a while, and there is a limit of 1 post per day that it can be used. Of course, if all (or even a few) of the pages/groups use their 1 post a day, it causes a complete mess for those who are tagged, and I have done the same as you and unfollowed a few that were using it regularly.
One of those things…
Some groups I am in use it to make sure all see the post, otherwise they can tend to get lost in amongst all the rubbish, so that is quite useful.
The Group tag is different. I have not seen the “Followers” tag used in a group I am in but only “everyone” . That is a legitimate way of bringing something to someone’s attention, I agree @pamadoodle :).
The Followers one is not, as far as I am concerned it is spam. The problem is that one person sees it and thinks oh good I will try that and 3000 people get a notification…
I find them annoying and have done the same in some cases. But you can uncheck in setting for disabling tag. I’ve done this.
I’ve had a look and can’t see any way of disabling these spammy blanket tags and I am happy to have normal tags. I don’t want to have to review all the tags I get. I just don’t want to be spammed whether the page owner realised it was spammy or not
These are the only options in my settings.
Can’t find it now! Think it linked with the unchecked option when I clicked on a post I was tagged in with followers or everyone or whatever. Try it when you get tagged again.
Thanks will look out for it. x
