Getting to know you

Newbie here just stopping by to say “Hi”
I enjoy various forms of crafting but unfortunately I’m not the world’s greatest when it comes to marketing so I’m hoping that Folksy’s tips will help me along a little.
Hope to get to meet new friends and maybe even gather up the nerve to attend a craft fair if I find one nearby.
Happy crafting
Kate

Hi Kate,
I am certainly no expert either but I did find two books really helpful: The Handmade Market Place by Kari Chapin and How to Sell Your Crafts Online by Derrick Sutton. There is some useful advice in both books. I picked my copies up second hand so you might find them cheap on Ebay.
I haven’t really done any markets or events but it would be great post Pandemic if Folksy put on some sort of networking events.
Good Luck with your crafting

HI Kate @CabinCraft
I have just found your post and it is almost exactly what I said on my first ‘challenge’ post this morning.
I am going to read with interest what advice comes along and I am going to make more in-roads on the Social media platforms. As we are now on the way out of Covid19 lockdown perhaps a few local markets might start up again and that could help. Good luck :four_leaf_clover:

Hi there, selling yourself is always tricky but when it’s your business you have to shut your eyes and jump right in there
There are some fab Facebook groups like Hike Those Likes Marketplace which help with building relationships and promoting your work, also great for tips and advice, fab community.
Folksy Clubhouse on FB is also brill.
Craft fairs are great fun albeit initially scary but to be honest everyone helps and will look after you on your first one. We absolutely love our “market” family as we have regular events we do now (COVID permitting) and look forward to a catch up as much as an opportunity to sell.
I don’t get to do as much as I should on social media but try to post daily on our Facebook business page and Instagram pages

Thanks Everyone, I’m looking forward to craft fairs and school fêtes with any luck. I really must stop procrastinating and list more of my items.
I have quite a lot on at the moment, trying to declutter my house, life and cabin (where my crafting takes pkace). I made up a big papetcrafting bundle for a friend today from all the material stick I have and she insisted on giving me some money for it. That hadn’t been my intention but its a start in the mountainous task of selling off a lit of my materials and equipment for the hobbies and crafts that I won’t be pursuing so I can focus on those I’m sticking with and also make headway to my ultimate dream of buying and learning to use a DSLR camera and really getting into photography.
I’m waffling on here and as it’s almost 11pm I think I’m going to turn in for the night I think. Might list a couple of items and then at least I’ll have done something I should do.
I also set up a Facebook page today to link to my Folksy but I’ve no idea what to do with it lol. Oh well life is supposed to be a learning curve I guess
