Yep, for those of us that failed to eat healthily for…well, the last 3 years Ive been posting about this, Ive stared a new one for this year.
I realised that a diet isn’t going to be good for me so I heard that you can forget dieting and concentrate on getting fit, which I think would be more beneficial, then weight loss may be a biproduct of that.
I just bought one of those kettlebell weight things, so my intentions are good.
If you wish to lose weight you have to combine diet and exercize. I wouldn’t recommend going on a “Diet” though, because the word implies you will do it for 6 months and then go back to your old habits.
What you should do (which has always worked for me, long term) is look carefully at what you are eating on a daily basis and decide which snacks you can cut out. Start by cutting out one and gradually cut down so that you body gets used to not having the sugar. This is really important, because if you are producing a lot of insulin because you are eating a lot of sugar and refined carbs, if you go cold turkey you will feel ill and will abandon your plan.
The end goal is to have a classically healthy diet with not too much of any one food group and no refined sugar (except on your birthday maybe). You will find that you are losing weight, but this may be as little as one pound over a month, so don’t weigh yourself, just stick to your guns. After a year or so, you might be surprised at how much better you feel.
I am speaking as somebody who appears to be very sporty and slim, but I can tell you this is not easy to maintain because I am an insulin dependent diabetic and it is notoriously hard for those of us with this condition to keep our weight down if we are well controlled. If I can do it, I am sure everybody can. You just have to commit to the idea that you will never eat a whole bar of chocolate again. But that’s a small sacrifice.
I have been with you on this yo-yo journey Clare. I would have relatively successful months, then forget and put it and more back on.
In September I bit the bullet and joined Slimming World, the knowledge that I have to weigh in at group each week keeps me focused, it is not a diet in the restrictive sense, more a healthy eating plan. You are never hungry on it.
I have lost about two stone so far. Hoping for more of the same this year.
I would really recommend it.
Healthy eating can be so boring can’t it… one thing that has really helped me is that I’ve started to do my grocery shopping online (except for fruit & veg which I get from a local farm shop). That way I’m not tempted by all the chocolate and other snacks which I always buy when I go to an actual supermarket, I literally only buy what’s on my list. Having eggs for breakfast seems to keep me fuller for longer too so I’ve been doing that for a while. It’s working for me… not so much for my husband tho, he obviously pigs out at work as he has put on weight rather than losing it!
It’s sooooo hard! However, since stuffing myself silly with chocolates over Christmas and ‘finishing off’ the leftovers in the New Year, I think I am finally starting to go off sweet things. However this is not as good news as it may at first appear, as I simply switch to all the yummy savoury things out there (I am very resourceful…). I genuinely think for me the only way to get a grip on my scoffing is to keep myself busy, so my Jan 27th resolution is to make something new each day. This will a) hopefully keep me out of the cupboard for more than a few minutes at a time and b) give me something to post on the Daily Listing Challenge (which I used to do but have been woefully rubbish at recently…)
I have been following this thread for a couple of years now, with the same motivation in mind: eat healthily, exercising more and eat fewer cakes. As I managed to tick the first two, the latter, however, is a real struggle as I LOOOVE cakes too much! The only optiona are: not buy cakes and not make cakes no matter how tempting it is as once I buy them or make them, they won’t last too long.
Anyway, my February challenge is to try not to eat any sweets and eat one salad every day. I think the latter will be fairly easy as I love salads too in any shape and form and I just bought myself a salad recipes book with 101 salads! I can’t wait to try them. I will come back at the end of February to let you know if I managed to stay away from cakes. In the meantime, I will read your post faithfully and take in any tips and advise you will share.
I have also had a word with myself and for the next month Im seriously gong to try to cut out all the snacks.
Its driving me bonkers that I always say in my head, ‘Il start eating better tomorrow, just let me finish this giant chocolate bar I bought an hour ago’.
Surely I can manage a month,then take it a month at a a time.
I usually try to eat healthily but I don’t like eating fruit every day, hubby loves fruit and there’s always plenty in the bowl. Yesterday I decided to have a small easy peel tangerine, put it on a dish and bit into a segment… it was really sour, hubby tried a bit and said it was fine just a little bit tart. And there’s when my healthy eating plan went iffy, not wanting to waste food I sprinkled it with sugar and finished it off
Well, I managed to stay away from cakes, I eat cakes on two occasions this month: we were invited for dinner at some friends and I couldn’t resist the desert and my husband came back from Romania, visiting his parents and of course he brought back some Romanian desserts that I couldn’t resist. Appart from that, I had a good month, I lost 3kg, I ate a lot of salads and I had a few yoghurt days and fruit days. I also discovered oil-free potato wedges (sweet and normal) and they are absolutely delicious!
Today we will have an Indian takeaway - it is our tradition to have an Indian takeaway after payday on a Tuesday as they have a 30% off on Tuesdays!
Let’s see what March brings .
I have to admit that I seem to be eating worse since ive decided ot eat more healthy which is ridiculous!!
I decided yesterday to focus more on my craft work rather than worry about whether my bum looks big. So the ‘diet’ is currently a distant memory. I get back to it at some point.
