Hello Jewellery makers - one of my favourite (shop bought - but before I was on folksy) earrings has lost its snap in the flicky up bit that goes through the ear. Can anyone mend it? Can it be mended? I nearly lost it the last time I wore them. I do hope so. Many thanks Suzzie
I’ve never seen the individual parts of a lever back for sale so it would be a case of replacing the whole back part. Unfortunately, from the photos, it looks like the back wouldn’t come off the front section so I don’t think it’s mendable in it’s current form. However… I think it should be possible to covert part of the current lever back into a loop such that it could be hung from a new leverback (meaning that the colourful part would hang beneath it rather than being part of it). Not the same but the earrings would be wearable and secure.
If you compare it to the other one, can you see a little steel pin that has got dislodged? Sometimes it is just a case of repositioning the pin, to get the spring back.
Thanks for getting back to me Deborah, but unfortunately someone had a little fiddle and now the spring has snapped off! I am going to see if Sasha can work her magic xx
Hello Sasha, I’ve looked at your idea, and I think that could work. The hooky bit that goes through the ear goes front to back but in order for the pretty bit to face forward the hooky bit would have to be made to go side to side. Can that be done or is the hooky bit to thin to twist? Suzzie x
Without seeing the earrings in person I wouldn’t want to 100% commit to answering that but since the hooky bit is strong enough to be a hooky bit then it should be strong enough to convert it into an appropriate loop to hang from. Shall I DM you my address then you can pop them in the post to me? (I know we met in Cambridge before but I’m not sure how often you come this way to do an in-person fix)
