Holiday mode Unhelpful

It’s a bit terminal, it would be better if it displayed a message, ‘on leave until ‘x’ your order will be processed on our return

That’s up to you to do. There’s a message facility on your shop announcements section. Though I agree, it would be better to have an automatic one.

Nobody Can order when you are in holiday mode as your shop listings are not shown.
In fact it takes about 15 minutes for them to reappear when you take holiday mode off again.

Ps am I being silly there. Sure my shop was empty when I reopened on Wednesday after a mini break and stayed empty for long minutes ?

Pps no not silly at all .. it just obviously takes ages for the listings to disappear as well

I agree, one of the things I really dislike on here is the way Holiday mode works.
Once you put your shop on holiday you are invisible, if someone comes to Folksy searching for a particular item that you make none of your items will show in the search, personally I don’t think it’s fair.
If someone searches for your shop name your shop will come up and have a note at the top saying you are on holiday and unable to process orders but it is in a tiny font and needs to be clearer.
I’ve moaned about this over the years and asked if it can be changed, the reason they say not is because there are a lot of shops on permanent holiday mode so if it was changed those items would be returned in searches as well. Surely there cant be that many shops left on holiday mode and fully stocked.
If I only go away for a few days i leave mine open.
I don’t know anywhere else that does it like this, I have an ebay account and when sellers are on holiday their items still show but with a note saying the item cant be processed until X day as the seller is away, so I don’t understand why a similar thing cant be applied on here.
I do put a note in my announcement when I’m on holiday but really there’s no point because none of my items will show in searches anyway.

It does have a delay Joy, not sure why though

Indexing within the software no doubt
Lots of Sellers probably don’t even know they go
InVisible as it takes quite a long time

PPPS Surprisingly my shop is still showing my listings though i put it into holiday mode to test how long it took about half an hour ago. Have drawn a pattern for a commisison and sent it to the customer since  Must remember to remove the holiday mode once it takes full effect… goodness, don’t want to lose any sales do I !

I’m absolutely sure that my listings have stayed in my shop when I’ve been on holiday mode before… You can’t buy them, but you can see them.

No idea if they still show up in search but I know that I’ve previously been looking for something and search has shown me something from a shop that was on holiday.

A few weeks ago I put my shop on ‘Holiday Mode’ checked the next day and you could see my items, I think they do not show in searches. There was a message at the top of the front page saying I was away and pop back later, but I don’t think it show on item page, which is not good if customers come to item by a SM link.

It’s very odd. I was on holiday Saturday to wednesday. When I took holiday off my shop was empty and took a good 15 mins to restore.

Maybe it takes overnight to empty.
Better take my holiday off and will retry next real holiday in September.

When I took my shop off Holiday Mode, I had thee same thing , notice saying “This shop is empty…” lasted around an hour

They do stay in your shop Debbie but customers making searches can’t see any of them.
I remember when we had issues with search facility over a year ago there was a shop on permanent holiday that showed up in searches, mine did not. This was changed I believe and nobody’s items are suppose to show so if you have seen some items from shops on holiday then the system is not working the same for the rest of us. I complained about it because why should some closed shop items show and not others.
I don’t think anyone’s items should be invisible and surely there must be a way of leaving them when it was previously showing some and not others sellers items.

Yes I got that after I had been away, it’s not good and I don’t understand why that notice pops up

My shop was definitely empty when i took holiday mode off on Wednesday. I noticed because it took as i said 15 mintues to fill up again. I suspect that when it goes into holiday mode it takes overnight to empty it which of course I would nor have noticed normally. It was very annoying when i went to my shop while it was on holiday and was unable to do a basic search for a couple of pieces I had sold in my other shop so i could zeroise the quantity.
Perhaps someone who is about to put their shop on holiday can check to see how long it takes for the lsitings to disappear from the shop front ? If not I will check when I holiday next and will come back here and tell you all.. Not going to put it on holiday when i am not especially at the weekend when you never know i might sell something

As I said the last time I put my shop on holiday mode, the items were visible, but not available to be purchased, then when I took it off holiday mode, the notice popped up saying 'This shop is empty ’ which took about an hour for the items to show again.

Surely, the listings from shops on a permanent holiday mode will have expired and those from shops going into permanent holiday mode in the future will expire unless they get relisted, which means you are nor permanently on a holiday? I’m a bit confused :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Thanks, why would people leave a shop in permanent holiday mode? I wonder if ‘management’ look at these posts, it would be nice if they would respond

That’s a really good point Mina I never thought about that, in that case there is no valid reason why our items should become invisible to searches made. Why they can’t just show up in searches with a note saying orders can’t be processed I don’t know but I think it would be much fairer to sellers.

Unless something has changed recently @linthamdesigns items do not normally appear in searches from a shop on holiday mode. I will also check next time I go away but not doing it now because I’m not having my shop appear empty when I switch it back again.

I know of one shop that used to still show when others didn’t and in that particular case the lady has left her shop sat there but been closed for maybe 3 years, it was due to ill health, I wonder if she realises it’s still there as she no longer makes to sell.
Surely though there can’t be that many that do.

I don’t know if they show in searches, I only know that when I look at my shop they are showing or when I click on a SM link they show up.

Oh yes your shop is still there but if a customer comes over and searches for an item and you have those items they will be invisible. If a customer types your actual shop name then you will appear it’s our items that fall off the planet when in holiday mode.

I think all items should still show as the customer may see something they like and pop back when the seller reopens, or perhaps message to ask if it can be reserved or read an announcement as in my case it will state when I will be back, at least give the customer the choice.
