Hi all, happy bank holiday… I’ve had a shop for some months now But haven’t sold a thing, I think my work should be saleable, but I suppose I would! I need help . Thank you x
Hi Michaela, I have only recently come back (after 6 years away) and sold two aprons in the first week but have had nothing since. You do start to doubt yourself, don’t you .
There are some fabulous sellers on here who are really helpful with tips and tricks but the main things I have learned are to be patient, use social media (@ChrisStoneArtist has set up a share your instagram info thread which is really useful) and get involved in some of the chats and showcases on here. Everyone is very supportive and it’s great to have your own little cheerleading team when you are doubting yourself .
You stuff is lovely by the way. Just off to favourite your messenger bag!
Hi Plaindotty,
Thank you so much for replying and for your kind words. I’m not very good at social media. I’ve recently made an Instagram page and I’m doing well with followers etc, but I’m still a little bit nervous of it and probably could do more for myself!? I’m learning
I must admit I do have an Etsy shop as I started with one before folksy. And I have the link on Instagram for that because I have made a couple of sales on Etsy. I would love to have my folksy link on too but I don’t think I can do both ?
Any way, I will try to get over my tech fears and maybe that will help.
Have a great day and stay safe
Michaela
I’m not sure about whether you can do both shop links in your bio on instagram, I’m afraid. I am a complete technophobe and have had to endure a massive learning curve (with the help and occasional eye-rolls from my teenage kids!!)
I am slowly getting there in the self -promotion which is way out of my comfort zone but I’m sure we’ll both get there if we stay positive and have faith in our products.
Folksy shops can take a while to develop traction so the more promotion you can do the better. It doesn’t have to be all about finished products you can do work in progress posts, ‘trying out random new ideas, what do you think?’ posts etc etc
I imagine that yarn items will have a seasonal desirability unless you can suggest alternative uses - people aren’t looking for lap blankets in a heat wave but might be looking for a picnic or outdoor play blanket and that sort of info should go in your descriptions and tags. Your tags could do with a bit of tweaking - your halter top has ‘festivals’ as a tag, people are unlike to use that as a search term for that item - ‘festival attire’ or ‘festival top’ would be better tags to use.
There are lots of helpful articles of the folksy blog https://blog.folksy.com/how-to-sell-craft-online-folksy-seller-handbook
Thank you again.
Hi Sasha
Thanks for your help. I’ll certainly have a look at my tags.
Hi Michaela,
I’m in the same boat as you so can’t really offer much advice, only to say I can empathise with you and know it can sometimes be a bit demoralising. I have found being on the 365 daily listing challenge has really been great with lovely friendly people who are supportive and helpful with advice. You get your listings favourited which should bump your items up so that they are seen. You also get to see others work and favourite them. If you are on social media they also pin you and put you on their Instagram (I’m still learning about all that) and you do the same if you can. Your shop looks good and I favourited your lovely crochet bag. Good luck, keep going and stay safe.
Hi Bimble Bird
Thank you so much for that … I will take a look
I’ll have to get myself motivated on the technology side of things
Thank you
Michaela
There is a possibility to link all your shops and social media on linktree dot com
I cannot write it exactly for Folksy may not like it. My Instagram page has this link and it shows my FB, Pinterest and shops I sell in.
I hope this helps
Thanks for the info Marjan. I wondered the same thing. Becca.x😊
Thanks for that Marian
I’ll take a look.
Michaela @Yarncrafts …firstly welcome to folksy…You have some very good advice on here.
The daily listing thread is brilliant…HOWEVER, you are expected to list an item every day for a month and to go and click , like and share everyone else’s listings each day. ( no one minds if you miss a few days…).but as you don’t have many items in your shop you would not have enough to take part unless you get those fingers working…Next week will see the start of a daily listing thread for June…so could you make 30 items to show for the month?
However there are other threads that you can join in with that will get you seen.
As well as painting, I do a lot of crochet and with the summer months almost here, knitwear sells slowly, so now would be the time to stock up on Christmas items and get ready for the rush.
You also need to be listing on a regular basis…it is no good listing a few items and then waiting…you need to always have something new for people to see, so that they keep going back to your shop. If people look and it is always the same, they will stop looking.
I don’t do technology either so just show my work on facebook and there is a folksy group on there which also helps.
Sasha @SashaGarrett always gives good advice to take on board all that she says…
Hope some of that helps x
Hi Brenda
Thanks for the help. I’m not sure that I’d be able to join this as most of my makes take quite a bit of time to make and I will be back at work on June 1st (school) so wouldn’t really have a chance to get loads done. Thanks for the advice about listing more, to be honest I actually thought that too much would overwhelm people , but I will definitely try to list some more items as soon as I can
