How YOU can get the most from the last few days of the 12 Days of Folksy Challenge

Hi everyone! We’re on Day 8 of the 12 Days of Folksy challenge (it’s gone so quickly!) but there’s still time to take part, so I thought it might be useful to give you some tips on how to make the most of it.

  1. Take part on Instagram if you can, as that’s what it’s designed for. You can take part on Twitter and Facebook but it works better on Instagram

  2. Post the best picture possible on the theme. There are lots of people looking through the #12DaysofFolksy tag so you want your photo to stand and and grab their attention. The more people like and comment on your post, the more likely it is to be displayed at the top of Instagram’s popular section for the hashtag or on their ‘suggested’ page - and the more likely you are to get seen and grow your community/following .

  3. Click on the #12DaysofFolksy hashtag on Instagram (you can also do this on any posts that use the hashtag or type it into the search bar at the top of the home screen). Have a look through all the posts - it’s set to show you the ‘Top’ posts first but if you click the tag on Instagram you can also see them in chronological order (most recent first). Then click on the photos that appeal to you. Then leave a comment on that post and any others you like, and follow them if you’d like to see more of their posts. Be genuine and interesting and respond to their caption, rather than just leaving a generic reply (that probably goes without saying but there are so many spam bots leaving the same comment on every post, that thoughtful comments mean a lot). Instagram is all about connections, and Instagram Challenges like this are one of the best ways to start building them and growing your community (both in terms of customers and your support network).

  4. Comment on our #12DaysofFolksy posts so people can see you’re taking part. That also helps the algorithm push our posts to the top of people’s feeds, which means more people will see them and be reminded to check Folksy for presents and Christmas ideas!

  5. Try not to make your #12DaysofFolksy posts promotional. Remember, Tell not Sell. Find a way to use the theme of the day to tell people about who you are, your life, what and WHY you make and your values. Your posts don’t have to be serious or directly related to your products - the challenge is designed as a chance to see the person behind the shop and also to be fun to take part it in. Check through the remaining themes and think what you could post for Let It Snow (if you haven’t already), Home/Family, Feast, Stockings and All Wrapped Up.

  6. Have a look at this post to see what kind of pictures have won so far - https://blog.folksy.com/2018/12/03/12-days-of-folksy-giveaway This isn’t all about the prizes but there really are some lovely things you could win!

Let me know if you have any questions!
