Hows peoples sales?

:flushed: that’s quite scary isn’t it. But he world we are living in just now it’s not massively surprising, everyone is pulling the purse strings tight I think.

I’m finding it so quiet this year, would normally have had some Christmas sales by now, I keep trying hard, hope they are just shopping later. The post strikes don’t help.

Stilll nothing here…i just got my new rates for gas and electricity so no wonder people are not spending xx

I’m having a terrible year. My sales normally pick up in September with my average around 20 sales. This year I sold 2 items. October/November and December are usually busy too, but I’ve only sold 1 item so far in October. It’s really knocked my confidence in what I’m selling and my motivation is at an all time low, to the point where I’m not feeling like making anything new, or promoting as it’s not getting me anywhere, which is probably making it worse.

I agree Kim, about motivation and promotion. Everything is so much easier when you are making a few sales, but as soon as they dry up, it’s so hard to push through it and carry on creating and promoting. So it’s a downward spiral. August wasn’t too bad for me, but now things seem very quiet and am trying hard to think of different ways to promote, rather than keep on doing the same old thing. I really don’t know what to try next.

My sales have been very quiet (here and etsy) but with the cost of living it’s hardly surprising.
I’ve also stopped doing made to order too which I think has made sales take a dive.

Its been quiet over in my shop too. I think people will be trying to save money with all of the scary news stories about the cost of living. (I hope everyone is coping with that by the way)
Maybe sales will pick up once people know where they stand financially with energy cost etc. Hopefully by november

A few minutes after I posted on this thread this morning, I made a sale. So I’m feeling a little better about things this evening. I have a holiday next week and lots of new listings all ready for when I come back. Keep at it folks! xxx

@KBCreations Please don’t let it knock your confidence in what you’re selling. Sales are down everywhere this year, we know the economy is absolutely awful and many people are being more cautious about spending because of worries about rising costs. It’s nothing personal and it’s nothing bad about your items. You know you’ve had plenty of sales in the past and your items haven’t suddenly got worse. It’s not you!

Maybe take a week off thinking about sales and promoting, and think of something you’d really like to make? Not something you make because it regularly sells or is trending/seasonal and you feel you have to, but something you’d like to make just because you’d enjoy it and it’s your style.
It might not help sales, but if they’re going to be low anyway, it might help get back your motivation and enjoyment to give you a boost to keep going (and you never know, maybe there’ll be someone out there who wants something a bit different).

This is generally what I was going to reply with, but you’ve said it much better than I ever could.

Thank you @konyskiw
Yes, when this happens to someone else I’m the first one to give the same advice as you have, but then when it happens to me I forget it!
I think when you focus too much on just making what you think will sell instead of making what you enjoy making, motivation soon dies when sales are slow. I need to get back to just making what I enjoy making, and if they sell then it’s a bonus!

Me tooo, I feel there is no point in making stuff and wasting my money and time, i havnt been on here long and its not my only income but the hours and hours I have spent promoting my items are alot and now I have no time and limited money to spend on materials, 2 sales in the last 3 months is not something I can sustain financially or mentally xx hopefully people will get better sales towrds christmas but if anything goes by what my friends are saying, everybodys cutting back xx

Am still waiting for a sale on here. Think not having sold anything puts people off too

I’ve gained some new customers via social media the past few months and my sales have really picked up. Most of my customers are return buyers and collectors. I’ve also just introduced a smaller, more affordable item to my shop and have had positive interest, sales and feedback. Something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time and something other folksy sellers suggested a long time ago (to make some smaller items alongside my larger priced items) it does mean I havn’t had time to make new dolls but I think it was a positive move.
Really hope sales improve for everyone soon x

No sales for me yet.Iv been on here about a month so I’m still waiting.Really enjoyed making my shop.Wen I get one you will all no.sometimes I wonder if I’m wasting my time and money but Iv really enjoyed making my products and I’m learning every day. From taking photos and explaining my items.Party for me when I get a sale.lol

Had 3 sales of some ephemera yesterday and wondered how they found my shop. Google one of the items ā€˜altered paper clips bee’.

The photo of this item were the first 2 on images and the actual link 3rd listing down.

I promote an item every day on Instagram, linked to my business Facebook page. Then go to FB and copy and post to,my personal page. Sharing to approx 6 groups. This takes all of 5 minutes but has paid off time and time again.

Also being on Folksy Plus I try, when I remember, to relist 6 items a day.

I love making and find sm can be tedious but this way no time at all. Took me about 3 months to get my first sale and notice if I do not promote daily the sales drop off.

Please can you explain the "realist 6 items a day?’ TIA

It costs nothing on Folksy plus to relist. I know some people relist pages which then floods the new items pages. So I try to remember to relist 6 items a day. Go to your dashboard, listings scroll to the last page and select 6 items from the bottom, relist.

Normally most people leave until the 4 months are up and you get a reminder from Folksy but as included in the monthly fee no harm in a bit if self promotion.
