Info about making a listing with variations?

Does anyone have some helpful info regarding adding variations to listings?
Do I need to make the original listing have the photo with all the different colours?
When I sell one of the colours, will it take that off the listing so it can’t be bought again?
Any other info would be great as going to try listing a bookmark with all the colour variations. As I’m paying per listing at the moment, wanted to ask first before I try.
Thanks

I think if you list different colours in variations and one sells it does not remove it so someone can buy the same one again. As far as i know you have to delete the one that has sold

Yes you do. It has no stock control functionality.

As already mentioned, you will need to control the stock manually.
If you have 1 item available in your main listing and let’s say 5 colours available, once someone buys 1 of whichever colour, your listing will show as out of stock. So then you will need to restock and adjust your colours if needed.
Now if you put 5 items available and you have 5 colours, this doesn’t mean it is 1 of each. Someone can go and buy 3 of the same for example. Your stock in your main listing will go to 2 available, but again, you will need to adjust your colours, the list will not change automatically.
You can put available numbers next to each colour (e.g. white - 2 in stock, black 1 in stock etc), but your main listing will need to include the total number, and as always, after something is sold, adjust your variations manually. The risk here is that the buyers might not pay attention to the number you state on your variations, and buy more, because it will let them do it.
Another thing is, since you pay by listing, bare in mind that if you put 5 in stock, you will pay for 5 listings. Which can get you quickly out of pocket if they don’t sell and you need to relist. But if you know they sell and you need the bigger quantities, then it makes sense to do it this way.
Also, as you have a limit of 5 pictures, it will be better to show your available colours in one picture, so it is clear for the buyer, and at the same time you have still 4 pics left to show your item.
In any case, “manually” is the word to remember, so see what works best for you and go from there :slightly_smiling_face:

I have lots of variation listings in my other shop. I have a note against them to say how many I have of each colour so please don’t order more.
It works fine.

Thanks so much for all the information @JOYSofGLASS @jenniesgems @theslothscavern Just what I wanted to know as I couldn’t find that info anywhere. I shall give it a try. I will probably wait until my bookmarks need relisting before I try this. I think it will look better if they are all together.
