Is anyone elses tags not being picked up?

This evening I received a markeing e-mail from Folksy, celebrating all things made of Wool, promoting them because of Tom Dalys Wool Game thing.

So, I went and took a look at this “collection” only to discover not a single one of my items were included, despite the tag of “wool” being in the materials sectionof every appropriate listing.

I’ve spent a couple of hours adding the word “wool” to the main tag section of every one of my listings that is made of either pure wool or has at least some wool content in the yarn that I used.

This isnt the first time that my items have been completely missed from promoting collections that are created using tags for certain materials or colours, despite those tags being in the materials or colour sections of the listing tags. The listing guides state that you don’t need to add colours or materials to the main tags section as they will be picked up, but clearly this isn’t happening.

Have things changed? Is anyone else experiencing anything similar with their tags?

I went and had a look, when I click on the link in the email that took me to items tagged with ‘wool’ your items were there. I wondering if the system takes a moment to update so when you were looking just after adding the tag it hadn’t had a chance to do so hence why your items weren’t showing up but are now.

My items were always tagged with Wool in the materials section. They weren’t in the promotional wool thing.

I spent a couple of hours last night adding the word “wool” to the main tag section and it’s only after I had done that that my items appeared.

What I’m getting at is that I shouldn’t need to have done that for my items to be picked up.

It looks as though the search that Folksy used to put the promotion together has only looked at the main tags and not at the materials/colours sections. It might be worth your dropping Support an email as perhaps something has changed and they’re not aware that the materials tags aren’t being picked up in promotions like this?

@admins any thoughts on this?

Is it a case sensitivity issue if the material tag is Wool and the tag tag is wool ?

They say no but I’ve found that it is a factor.

I think case sensitivity is an important question, I’d really like to know the answer - that could be very impactful!

Quite worrying that materials/colours aren’t getting picked up too, let’s hope they can tell us why! Look forward to finding out what they say :crossed_fingers:

I wondered the same as I listed a lot of wool baubles for the 9th November baubles day but none of mine came up on the wool results via that email. Mine do say wool in the title and tags so presumed it’s because I’m new and hadn’t sold anything. It was a bit disheartening as I’d spent so long trying to make sure all the tags etc were there. Does Folksy just promote the popular shops as I haven’t seen any of my things in the new shops section either :pensive_face: Or am I doing something wrong? @arcanafeltstudio

Don’t feel disheartened. I’ve had my shop on here almost since year dot of the existence of Folksy, although I did leave it empty whilst I tried my luck “on the site on the other side of the pond/the dark side/that which should not be named but begins with ET**”. I’ve been back a couple of years now and my last sale was at the beginning of July. Despite being here all that time I still haven’t reached 50 sales, I’m not popular. I think its down to the admin, who sets the search for the items, clearly not making sure that ALL tag sections are included and that is something thats only been happening more recently and that needs to change.

@Folksyadmin

Hi Joanne,

I just had a quick look and you don’t have the word “wool” as a tag on the two items I looked at, although it is in the Materials field. Whilst I think it feels like a rather daft and ineffective way of getting lots of quality results to come up for wool shoppers, as things stand right now, if you want your items to appear when people click through to that collection, you need to add “wool” (no quote marks) as a tag to your item(s).

Having added a lowercase “wool” to some of my own made of wool items, I can confirm that it isn’t case sensitive - they are coming up in the results.

Thank you so much, I’ve gone through them all again x

Oh, that’s odd as I thought I’d done them all of the items with wool content.

No that was a response to Joanne - yours were coming up in the collection when I looked :slightly_smiling_face:

The tag pages shouldn’t be case sensitive (but they do need to match exactly - so no extra/missing characters), and they should also pick up tags from the colours and materials section.

If you’ve got an item that is tagged ‘wool’ but isn’t getting picked up by the page Tagged items: wool on Folksy
please can you email support@folksy.co.uk with links to your items that are tagged but not being picked up. We really need to see examples of listings where it currently isn’t working to try to figure out why they’re not being picked up so we can fix it.
