Hi, I’m new to Folksy and was just wondering if you can list the same item under 2 categories. For example I make Memory Wire beaded bracelets. Can I list them under both “Beaded Bracelets” and “Wrap Bracelet” or will this harm my shop? Thank you for any help you can give me. Phyll
I think you may find can only select 1 category.
If you mean Collections then yes you can. Not categories though.
Ok, thank you!
Ah, thank you
Thank you.
If you have two similar listings you can list them in different categories, if there is more than one category where they would fit.
Thank you. So I can’t copy a listing and put it into another category? I was thinking it would be good to show up in both beaded bracelet and wrap bracelet with the same listings. . Perhaps I shall put some in one and some in the other!
I don’t think you can list the same item twice, unless you have more than one of the exact same thing, but if you put some in one and some in the other then people will find your shop via both categories.
On your shop page you can list any item under two or more collections.
If you want an item in different categories you would have to create two separate listings for the identical items then put them in two different categories (as long as they genuinely fit the category description).
You should vary the written description and main photograph to clearly demonstrate why an item is in the category so you might show a main photo (for beaded bracelets) emphasizing beads and saying ‘colourful and unusual beads make up this attractive bracelet’ and on the other listing (in wrap bracelets) show a different main photo and say 'memory wire helps make this wrap bracelet adjustable. (Effectively they are different listings)
I would not have two many of the ‘same item different category’ listings as it might make you page look repetitive, crowded or confusing and your customers might find it irritating.
Hope this helps.
Yes, that’s what I’m hoping! Thank you!
Thank you, I can see what you are saying makes sense. I think it will give me a lot more work and like you say, probably make the shop look messy. I shall experiment with some in one and others in the other for a while and see if it has any effect. Thanks for detailed reply.
Yes I do this for a couple of thinks - for example some lantern jars which are suitable for both indoor and outdoors - so “homeware - home decorations” and “gardens and pets - ornaments”
Do you mean you actually list the same things as two separate listings.? Not sure that the disadvantage of duplicating things re badly affecting SEO would balance the difference it could make to views in having things in both categories and it would certainly confuse me to have my own unique pieces listed twice. Hard enough having the same things for sale in different shops.
Hello Joy
I only have two products that can be listed under 2 categories - those work for me but I wouldn’t want too many. Too many opportunities for confusion by far!
