Is there an easy way to find out what Gift Guides are current?

Looking for pointers please! It says in the Gift Guides category on the forum ‘come here to see which gift guides we’re working on’ but I can’t see where to find that information - am I looking in the wrong place? Is it in the blog somewhere perhaps? Is there a simple way to find out which guides are currently active and looking for new items to be added to them, other than just looking out for forum threads that come to the top when someone else adds a suggestion? The ‘gift guides’ section has loads of threads with ‘2022’ or even older dates in the title so I’m guessing those aren’t active any more, but how do I figure out which of the other threads it’s worth adding my items to? For example there is a ‘gifts for tea lovers’ thread to which nothing’s been added since 2022 so if I put my teaspoons in there am I just wasting my time? Do Admin ‘bump’ the threads for the guides they’re actively seeking items for? Any advice would be very much appreciated!

I have wondered the same, I use to add new products but have almost given up with them recently. I think the forum could do with a spring clean, I’m sure half of what’s on talk folksy is no longer relevant and plays havoc with my ocd of organising lol  just think if half of it was binned how tidy it would be . Would be good to know whether admin still use them when they are updating gift guides and favourites.

I agree with you and it appears there are lots of new sellers joining the site so it would be good to refresh this information

Totally agree! I think there should definitely be a ‘shelf life’ for all showcases - and if they’re gift guide requests by Folksy themselves maybe they should also be pruned out when they’re getting old. Something like a 12 or 6 month time frame would be great.

Been away for a week and was kind of hoping to see an answer - the gift guides would be so much more useful if we sellers had an idea of which ones were still current and seeking new items - @folksycontent I know you folks are super busy with the influx of former E-place sellers right now but is this something that could be sorted please? It would benefit all of us!

It would be useful to know whether they are in use still.
I often wonder where Folksy find items for ‘Folksy favourites’ as well as for the gift guides. I imagine for the gift guides they will search for items i.e, spoons but i would be interested to know where they find their ‘favourites’ from as some sellers seem to have items chosen regularly and not all of them use the showcases on the forum. I agree Folksy will be busy with newbies plus we have just had the exhibition @LooneySpoons

I agree, after two years I still find it impossible to find anything useful on the forums because all threads seem to stay live forever, and a really old thread becomes active as soon as somebody posts on it - so a request for gift ideas by Folksy back in 2016 suddenly leaps to the top because someone has posted on it today. It must be a nightmare for @folksycontent too.

@folksycontent could we possibly have an update on this please? The Gift Guides could be a great way for more sellers to showcase their items but it would be really helpful to have a system for finding out which ones are currently active rather than relying on random forum posters to bring them back to the top of the forum threads. I’ve given up posting in any of the gift guide threads as there is no way of knowing whether adding an item is actually going to put it into the gift guide or whether it’s just adding to the confusion!

Posting an item in a gift guide thread whether active or not is never a guaranteed way to get it included in a gift guide.

Items for the editorially selected Gift Guides on the homepage, and items in the buyer emails are selected by Folksy staff at their own discretion.

Gift Guides and buyer emails are often based on annual or seasonal events or trends, so please make sure that you describe your items to include any relevant words.

A lot of the time searches are made to find the items to update gift guides with (or create new ones), so the important thing is to make sure your items come up in relevant searches and make sure you’ve got clear photos (How to be featured on Folksy)

The gift guide threads are generally an addition to this, and will be used most if there’s a brand new gift guide to fill, or it’s a more obscure theme so there aren’t as many items coming up in search (it might prompt someone to list/renew something that’s a good fit, or there might be items that someone didn’t describe/tag well enough to easily be found).

The older gift guide threads may be looked at too, but remember this is only secondary - if the items were only selected from posts in the threads, they’d be limited to the section of sellers that are active on the forums, and there are a lot more on Folksy that don’t post here. It’s better to concentrate on making sure your listings come up in relevant searches and have good photos.

I find the selection of things for the gift guides can be quite random. As an example I just went for a browse and was interested in the Gifts for Her category - as I know many of my pieces are gifted to ‘her’ and tagged as such.
I did find a rather lovely Hare cushion and I liked it as a reminder … as a gift for Him, my husband. He is very masculine :joy::joy::joy:

Thanks Kim, that’s very useful information - and a very good point that not all sellers are active on these forums! Also that search terms are important for the gift guides. I’ll bear that in mind when listing new items

Maybe the answer as far as creating a showcase (as opposed to Folksy’s own gift guide requests), is when we create one we date it in the title - so, for example, naming them something like ‘Halloween Gifts & Decor 2023’, or ‘Pink Nursery - Spring 2023’. Then sellers can see there’s a date, and if it has gone past they can start a new updated thread?

If a few of us started doing that as a matter of course, I think it could become something others pick up on and start doing too?
