How to people prefer to see items displayed in shops?
I have always grouped things together, so similar styles of handbag altogether, then maybe all my purses together etc.
I realise if people want to just view my handbags they can just click on the ‘handbags’ collection, so would I be better just having everything jumbled up?
I’ve also tried having items grouped so that they run vertically down the page rather than across, so people get to see 4 different items running across the page, but when I get a sale it messes it all up and I have to keep rearranging it.
Would welcome your opinions…
I can’t offer any advice, but I had wondered the same thing. For a while I grouped all my 3D cards together, then Christmas etc but then I started to over think it and wondered whether customers might glance quickly, assume I only do the first type they see and not look further down. I’ve started to just put everything in the random order of when listed but the ones I had grouped I’ve left as they were.
That’s what I’m thinking…if people just have a quick look at my shop and just see rows of make up bags…will they think that is all I do and just go? But then no one seems to have much time these days so will they bother to scroll through my shop, or notice they can click on a collection to see all of 1 type of item?
Maybe I’m just over thinking it too…I have a habit of doing that…
I always go for a mix. I have everything organised into groups, then on the front page I aim for items to be slightly grouped (maybe 3-4 items) but have a lot of different stuff generally. I think it’s good to offer people an overview and then give them the option to visit different categories.
I used to arrange my items in some sort of logical way - then when I looked at GA I noticed that some items were getting fewer views, depending where they were on the page - things at the top and bottom of each page got more than things in the middle. So now I’m trying a rotation system where once a week I send the bottom 5 items ‘up to the top’ - 5 because there are 4 on a row in a PC view, so that rotates things along the rows as well. I haven’t been doing it for long but when I do my next check I’m hoping to see a more even distribution.
Having said that, if there are some related things, I’d put them together (a set of Cards, for instance, or two similar paintings that just might sell together.)
I do try and move my shop around every couple of weeks…but tend to keep similar items grouped together. Maybe I might try something a bit more random and see how it goes!
I like to have a mix so when people enter my shop they can immediately see the different types of items and styles I do (along with showing different price points), and if they’re looking for a particular type of item they can just click on the collection.
I worry that if I ordered everything that someone would look at my shop, just see that one type of thing that isn’t their style filling the page and click straight off again.
For a while I colour collected them…but it gets harder and harder the more listings you have.
Nowadays when I list something new I shunt it to the top but if I list 2 same but with say colour variation, one goes to the top and the other stays put at the bottom…but I will then post them both on my facebook page with a link to both of them with a common very specific tag so anyone wanting to find them will see them both selected.
I also choose carefully what’s at the top, and move a few thing about at will, to ensure hopefully a pretty, varied and colourful line of collection photos.
I used to have my items in groups…but have decided now to have them mixed up. If someone goes to my shop, they will be able to see that I do a variety of things…and anyway, trying to move them around in shopkeeping can be very time consuming…and I am lazy…lol
