I’m just having a little moan this morning, I try to play fair and I never, ever use a ‘theme of the day’ tag on any of my products unless it really does genuinely fit my product.
Why is it allowed that a few sellers seem to use a tag to promote themselves that isn’t even loosely relevant?
Today for once I have something I can tag with todays tag ‘commission’ I have one product, so my chances of being seen are small, yet on the front page this morning was a seller who had two products and neither of which even mentioned the word commission anywhere other than the tag?
We all work hard to get our products seen here and it’s depressing when folk don’t play ball.
This happens time and time again and sadly nothing done about it. I expect it would take too long for Folksy to check every entry but agree very unfair.
Yes. I have to admit that I dip in and out of playing along because of this. Such a shame as it’s a great way to promote ourselves.
There aren’t many items on today’s ‘commission’ tag theme, so definitely add yours if it fits. I did spot a couple which weren’t actually correct, I will mention them to Support. But I suspect in most cases it’s accidental, because people have copied a listing to create a new one and not checked the tags. It’s easy to do.
If a shop is reported for abusing the theme of the day tags by tagging irrelevant items then admin will contact them and ask them to revise their tags (whether or not the shop opts to do that is another matter). If a shop is repeatedly reported for misusing the theme of the day tags they will be excluded from appearing for a certain amount of time (I think its a month). This does require us to do the reporting so if you spot something that doesn’t fit use the ‘report item’ button and then put mis use of theme of the day tags in the reason box.
I’m always really worried I’m posting in the wrong place or have posted the same things twice or used a tag inappropriately - I expect mistakes happen especially with ‘theme of the day’. This month I couldn’t remember if I had done the ‘tag one thing only’ so I left it out (at least I think I did!).
I get what you’re saying and we all make mistakes, I remember cocking up plenty of times creating a listing, posting things in the wrong place in the forum, etc, I’m talking about the very obvious tags for theme of the day that bear absolutely no relevance at all to the theme.
Thank you Sasha I didn’t know we could do that.
I’m sure sometimes it is accidental sometimes, easy done I know, however, tagging a listing with ‘commission’ when none of your shop items offer commissions and there is no mention of taking commissions anywhere on your shop doesn’t feel like an accident to me. Ho hum, such is life.
Just had a quick look at today’s theme pages, as usual pages of items by the same person, and, as usual, nothing from me despite always using any relevant tags. I’ve always offered to make to commission and have made items when asked. It’s very rare for anything I tag to appear, except maybe on about page 30 by which time I and anyone else have long stopped looking .
Today’s theme (16th oct) is ‘my favourite piece’ so shops should only be tagging one item. If you see more than one item from on a shop on favourite piece day then definitely report them for tag mis use. I had a quick look and I don’t see multiple listings from the same shop and there are only 3 pages to look through so I’m not entirely sure where you are looking. (Tagged items: tag one thing only oct 22 on Folksy)
On other days you can bump yourself up the pages of daily theme tagged items by renewing your items with that tag as they are displayed in reverse chronological order (but don’t do that too early in the day as the shops who do the mass daily theme tagging also tend to renew their items on the day so you want to renew yours after they have renewed theirs)
Sorry, the email I got was for Commissions, haven’t seen the favourite piece ones.
It really shocked me that day too, I’m sure some are genuine mistakes, but as Sasha says, going forward if anyone sees a shop misusing the tags we can simply report them if we wish.
@Vintagebeadery As Sasha says, the “see more” pages are ordered by most recently listed/renewed, so where your items show up depends on how recently listed they were, but for the 8 items that show on the home page, they are chosen at random and will change every time you refresh the page, so even if your item is the very last on the pages, it still has just as much chance to show on the front page.
