Just because

So interesting to read through this thread!
It is page 106 for me, I don’t even remember when I opened my shop, it must be around 2017-2018. I opened with the name “Yarn Over”, as I was crocheting and found it interesting to use a crocheting term as a name. I remember I listed a couple of coaster sets, and then I disappeared, as my twins were about 3-4 years old back then and was crocheting toys like mad for them, and I found out I wasn’t allowed to sell them due to the testing law. I opened up again around March 2022 I believe, changed the name, and slowly finding my way through it.

P.S. I still have those 2 sets of coasters, nicely wrapped and ready to go, in my yarn box, but they are not for sale anymore, they have a sentimental value now

Thanks Joy - you are always so helpful to us all - I’m sure we all appreciate you hugely! I’m pretty sure I joined November 2022.

I didn’t think I would be that far along, I initially started on page 30 :see_no_evil::see_no_evil:

I couldn’t resist checking this out. I’m on page 79 and I haven’t even been open a year yet. Hopefully that means it’s getting more and more popular.

I wonder if that means there have been a lot of shops shops opened and closed again between ours if you are on page 79 aftwr 1 year and I am on 127 and have been here since 2018 or perhaps it means there has been a huge spike in new comers this year

I think it’s getting known finally and also a lot of people are fed up with E*** and the issues they’ve encountered

It could be that Folksy have been widely advertising for new sellers and giving deals of free months to attract the dispirited E* sellers. But in order to keep those sellers the sellers will need to see a reward… in this case sales. The total number of sellers has not moved much in the many years I have been here. Some come, some go and some stay and sell and some stay and don’t sell.

Wow, what an interesting thread - just caught up with this now my shop is back open - I’ve been here 15 months and I’m on page 88 of 175, so does that mean that the number of shops on Folksy has more or less doubled since I joined? Or as Joy said, have a lot of sellers left as well as arrived and is the overall number of shops (around 5,000 - is that right?) staying pretty constant? So it’s just that half the existing shops have been open for 15 months or less and there’s been a turnover of the ones that had been here for a while but weren’t selling?

The number of shops is far more likely to be under 4000. Current count is 3500 but may exclude a few still on Xmas holiday. I’ve never seen it above 4000 in the 15 years I’ve been here but I remember it as being consisently around the 3000 level for years… some come, some go but the E*** thing and associated special seller reduced fee offers have swelled the number in recent months.

Just rechecked and mine is now 129 was 127 so a few have joines in the past 2 weeks which is good.

So interesting this… I am on page 102.
Is there anywhere on your dashboard or elsewhere that shows when you actually joined please?
Judy

Don’t think the date shows anywhere. It if is there i have no idea where as I’ve never found it. I only know when my first sale was made from my own records.
I sold my first piece, a frog ring 5/5/2009 but i made it 28/8/2008. so all I know is I opened my shop somewhere between those two dates. Think it was probably early new year 2009.

The date you joined shows if you favourite someone else’s shop. So if you favourite my shop, then I go to see who favourites my shop, it shows me the member and the date they joined.
I put my date of joining in my about page so I always know the date.

Thank you Joy for replying. I thought I hadn’t seen it anywhere on the shop dashboard.
My first sale was 2/8/21 and I thought I had opened my shop in the June 21, convinced even, but this thread prompted me to look in my notebook, and the date I had wrote, or better description would be scribbled  is not clear and seems to be earlier  so I got curious!

The figure of 5,000 is Folksy’s own - I knew I’d seen it somewhere, have just found it on FB - they counted 5,073 in November 2023

Joy, @JOYSofGLASS , 31st March 2014.

The internet knows everything

Ah in that case that date is not joining date . I’ve been actively selling since May 2009. How odd

Will go favourite your shop (I follow you on IG) and perhaps you can tell me too. :joy:

Well you got me looking @SteampunkCreativeEngineering :joy: but didn’t find any date.
What I did find though  so just asking if anyone here knows… why do my Christmas items I did not sell - which I have now hidden from sale until later in the year - say sold out when you click on the link that’s there? Is that what happens when you hide items from sale in your shop please?
