I was just updating my sales spreadsheet and find that today is the day four years ago when I shipped my first ever internet sale of Art In Wax … The first painting was a Poppy painting via Folksy to @Louisa15 and now Art In Wax large and in miniature are all over the place !!!
… as far as I know, more than 550 pieces of Art In Wax are now in 14 different countries on 3 continents worldwide and it all started here
Yes Margaret and Folksy is part of my Art In Wax “story” that’s for sure my Art has evolved a lot since the early days… And I’m forever experimenting to see just what I can do as an artist in hot wax - Encaustic.
I do hope it will continue - it’s hard work, selling online as I’m sure everyone here knows. When I started out, I was told it’s hard to sell Art online and that people need to see Art before they buy it. Not so its seems, and having been part of this forum and the Art Chat thread for most of these four years too I know many other artists who sell well, and more than me online.
I do agree that it’s not easy to get across the depth, texture and sheen that you get in real life seeing a piece of original Art In Wax in a photo, and lots of people have never heard of or seen a piece of Encaustic Art before this is partly why we made videos of me painting to show how it’s done … That said the I do find that once someone buys a piece of my Art In Wax, they do sometimes buy more, I have had several tell me that they bought a piece and then bought one for a gift.
For me painting is my passion and seeing what I can do in hot wax is the greatest challenge. I paint large wall art and in miniature - which are very popular with collectors and dollshouse enthusiasts.
I think you are right Hazel I’m over year on Etsy and almost 2 months here and have only 38 sales altogether. FB, twitter, promo on forums etc… takes lots of time.
