New to Folksy - Constructive Critique and Advice

Hi Everyone,

I’m new to Folksy and would love to receive any constructive critique (shop, images, products, prices etc) or advice from any ‘seasoned’ Folksy sellers.

OK…
the loose charms look like they are commercial so need to be listed in the supplies - commercial section not the handmade jewellery section. You also need to add tags to the listings to help them get found by the folksy search algorithm.
Folksy has rules about ‘assembled jewellery’ in the T&C and this specifically mentions commercial charm on a chain as something that is not allowed - I suspect that your tree of life charm on a leather thong falls under the umbrella of ‘assembled jewellery’ so it would be wise to check with admin if it is allowed on the site (email support@folksy.com)
Bracelet listings - you need to add tags these help you get found by the search algorithm, tags to consider adding stretch bracelet, meditation bracelet, yoga bracelet, unisex bracelet, men’s bracelet, elastic bracelet. An additional photo of the item being worn would be useful (especially on a gent’s wrist), also a photo of the version without the charm where applicable (but the photo you have got looks good - nice and bright and properly cropped for how folksy displays them). I’d make more about the fact they are stretch fitting so no fiddly clasps - great for those with dexterity issues or poor eye sight.
I also recommend adding an ‘about’ section to your shop - you’ll find that on the dashboard under the shop settings (list on the left hand side). Also under shop settings you’ll see ‘shop appearance’ this tab has spaces for you to add your shop’s social media links, you will need to promote your shop and items on social media to help drive sales.
Hope that helps and good luck with your shop.
Sasha

I recommend putting the ‘story’ of the item in the description. Describe the wood, the gems, the charms, what they mean (e.g. what the Tibetan Om symbolises) and how you made them. Where are the materials sourced from, etc. At the moment the items read identically, and like they’re from a big commercial shop. I wouldn’t buy from you, as I’m on Folksy to buy handmade items from indie sellers, so I recommend making everything just look a bit more personal. More pictures would help with that.

Good luck!

Hello Francesca,

Thank you for your comments

The shop is a work in progress and was created as it is to get a presence on the platform as soon as was possible.

I see what you mean about the listings, I can work through them and make them more relevant
now that I have got some items listed.

Best wishes,
Stephen

I am still fairly new to Folksy. I have been trying to load a photo to 1 of the threads on Talk Folksy but I could not make it work.
Can you give me some guidance on how to upload my photos please?

Ruth Colvin

I just click reply on the thread then select the grey photo icon at the bottom right of the box. That takes me to the photo library on my phone so I just select a photo then a bunch of characters appear on the screen (not the photo itself) but when I click reply the photo appears. If I want to post a listing of mine I go to listings and click on the item title and select Copy URL. I then paste that into the thread and when I reply the listing appears. I hope that helps. There are threads that cover this as well.
