I have perspex boxes and display stands from the few craft fairs that I did, I might have to get rid of them but postage on them will be ridiculous.
Now I have failed the no buy October, because your junk has become my junk ![]()
Iām teetering on the edge here, Iāve just seen some supplies/equipment that I need, no, want and yearn to possess desperately is more like it, shall I buy or not? Perhaps I need to lock up my credit cards and go down the pub.
Do you think that obsessive craft supply buying might be some kind of medical condition?!? I spend more time oohing and ahhing over supplies than I actually spend making stuff!
So⦠collective nouns for crafters
a clutter of crafters⦠an obsession of crafters⦠a pottery of crafters⦠an impulse of crafters⦠a husbands worse nightmare⦠a need-more-storage-space shopper⦠the list could go on!
Definitely. But I seem to spend more time moving things around than making, obviously to make more room for those supplies I just cannot resist. Help!
Oh Deborah, thank you but does not count if from another F seller, we are just moving things around and sharing, lol.
You have to be strong Karen. I keep away from the Matings market, on Saturday but have my flu & covid jabs so cannot go. Love to hunt for vintage lace and broken jewellery to use on journal covers etc. can never pass an antique shop with linens on display.
We have an affliction and need CA Crafters Anonymous to help us, hence this thread.
Bit late to the party but I will try. Having massively overspent in September I need to rein things in! I have so much excess stock that I will never use - I am terrible for buying too much of an item because you get it at a lower unit price even though Iāll never use it all!! Really must sort it out and get it listed. The only problem I foresee is if I have a really good market next weekend and have to buy in stock for remakes (wishful thinking really!) Weāll see ā¦..
My trick is to buy something I need! Put somewhere as forgotten what I wanted it for. The. Further down the line get another as forgot that bought in the first place.
Iām trying to be strong Carol, but itās hard isnāt it. My weakness is tools, then I have to find supplies so I can use the tools. Having said that I have managed to de clutter my tools, it was hard and I may have had a sob or two, but they are gone. Trouble is I now have space for more tools. Iām being stong here, honest Carol, Iām resisting really I am. Iām using this thread as my therapy and itās good to know that Iām not alone. Keep resisting ladies, only 29 more days in October.
Iām in. I have enough fabric, ribbon, coloured paper, paint, brushes, wicker baskets, vintage hats, buttons (the list goes on!) to keep us all going for about 20 years. I even bought a job lot of 850 reels of Gutermann thread last year (Thatās 85,000 metres!). My husband also recently started following one of my main vintage fabric suppliers on Instagram and because she does weekly sales I can no longer wheel out my āoh this is an old curtain, it was under a tennerā line with him when parcels of fabric arrive.
I promised myself no purchases in October (unless itās at the knit and Stich show next week) and then had an epic ebay fail yesterday when something rare and in great condition came up. I need help! ![]()
We are here to help you Linda. Okay you fell of the wagon but when at the show ask, āDo I need it, what have I got planned to make with it. Do I have enough already at homeā then walk away. I would not dare go to a show but the hate crowds anyway.
In my opinion this has been the best post Iāve read on the forum. Itās made me really think about things these last few days. So Iāve started decluttering, cancelled some orders that I just didnāt need and looked at all the supplies and tools that I have and realised that I can have a NO Buy October, November and December with a lot of will power and luck and support from all you other lovely obsessive craft collectors & horders. Weāll always be collectors and horders wonāt we but maybe with each others support we can rein it it. I might be able to find the spare bed eventually, not to mention the husband who reckons he might never be seen again if he ventures into the spare room. This really has been a great thread, some of you are so funny that I think you should write stories, but then that means more supplies, paper, printers, laptops etc etc. Hey ho, it never ends does it.
I may be in trouble as the main reason I bought a ticket is one of my other vintage fabric suppliers has a stand there⦠![]()
Always happy to help you Karen. I will only be buying glue, no need for anything else. Glue is a necessity so not counted.
They will be there next time.
Step away from the tools Karen.
Iāve stepped away.
I am in with you all - that is, after the eagerly awaited three shipments arrive that I ordered before October, LOL.
I am guilty of what Sharon does - sourcing components for an almost sold out listing so I can keep it live instead of starting again with a new design from supplies I have in stock. In my defence, it is a best seller! ![]()
Glue definitely necessary as is silver wire for ear wires.
