Well done be strong.
Sounds like me. Iāve got a huge collection of vintage textiles that I should be using. Then I go and set up an eBay alert for vintage Christmas fabrics. I have now turned it off!
Gutterman thread is an essential, so good to have a good stash. But if you decide to offload some, I need to stock up on some colours. As Caroline says, itās ok to buy from each other ![]()
I use Gutermann for normal sewing, love it and Madeira for the embroidery machine.
I have a drawer full of glitter and a large pot of white glitter, all set for Christmas, not buying!
Shop your stash as my US friends say, amazing what you find. When sorting I found a box full of vintage lace, won on EBay last year then forgot. Original labels etc.
I definitely need to offload some of the Guterman thread and have earmarked some time this week to sort it all out and start listing it. I bought it to sell and there are loads of multiples as it was from a shop closing down sale. Let me know what colours you are looking for and Iāll see what Iāve got.
Iām definitely a colour magpie which is part of the reason I bought them. I have every single colour in the Winsor and Newton Designer Gouache paint range but always go back to the same limited pallete when I paint.
Vintage fabric is my biggest downfall though so Iām going to turn off some of my eBay alerts today!
You donāt have the extra strong Gutterman thread do you @TheVintageBookbinder ? I have plenty of the normal reels and donāt like the top stitch thread as its too thick but the extra strong is what I use for closing seams, attaching ears etc to my bears and the shops that use to sell it no longer do. Of course this is an absolutely necessity in the world of bear making but if zi need to I will stand up in the circle of CA anonymous and say
āHi Iām Debby, I have an addiction to buying craft supplies, many that I think I need but donāt and others just becauseā¦. ā ah I feel better already
Ooh, Iād be interested in quite a range of shades. Particular need for greens and reds, ideally in muted vintage tones - but a mixed bundle of lots of colours would work.
Thatās about the only thing I donāt have, sorry. ![]()
Iāll get back to you with some pictures as soon as I have sorted all the reels out (Tuesday/wednesday this week if thatās OK) This is brilliant as it has prompted me to crack on with this - itās been on my to do list for about 2 years!
No rush at all.
How are you all getting on?
I failed but then as from a Folksy seller, not really. Apart from this fail been goid so far. Only another 21 days to go.
10 days in and not a single penny spent - so proud of myself (so far) particularly as I have had a very boring week sitting at home and thatās when the browsing/buying usually starts.
I know what you mean. I would have been fine if Sharon had not posted in the Daily Listings, some lovely fabric, just perfect for my sample cards.
Ahh, I feel for you Carol. Iām glad I donāt make with fabrics as I be doomed, theyād be impossible to resist. Chin up and be strong. Iām doing well here so far resisting buying any metal at all and deciding what to make with my existing stock.
Iām feeling very virtuous as there is a gem show in Devon this weekend and I am resisting going. The temptation to splurge would be just too much!
Well done Deborah
Ok so I have a problem!! Just returned from a very successful fair and sold loads of robins so need to make more for my next event at the end of the month (they are my best seller) ā¦. but I donāt have sufficient materials to do so so I will have to buy more. I consider this an essential buy but will probably have to buy some additional bits that will definitely be used but are not strictly needed just yet in order to justify the postage costs. Looks like Iāve failed this challenge but as it is the result of good sales Iāll take that!
Oh dear Roz! What can I say?
Good news ā¦. found what I needed in my stash!! So still in the game (for now
)
Just goes to show we often can shop our stash, rather than buy.
