Am I just in the wrong place for my art/work

Your art work is really good - I just popped over to have a look. Are you using social media to advertise? I post in at least 4 places twice a day and it really works. Art is more difficult to sell, I know because my husband is an artist but you need to get yourself out there and build up a following.

Wow your artwork is stunning. I think for most people it is slow here but the community is great. I wouldn’t give up but have other places to sell your work too. The more places you can be found the better for you.

I don’t suppose you’d think about doing a collection (4?) that are Christmas themed ones. I love your work, and in particular the ones where there is minimal colour. The others are gorgeous too. It’s just my preference Stephen. Have you checked any of the local shops that may take your art work for selling? Just a thought

I like having a shop on Folksy but I don’t think it’s the ideal platform for selling art. It’s more about crafts on here. I’ve had a good look around at what platforms are available out there for us artists (I have opened an account on Saatchi art) and I haven’t seen one that sells small to medium size work which I think would suit my work. I really think face-to-face sales are the way to go. Good luck with your sales.

Hi Stephen, your work is lovely. You mention in your about section that you have Facebook and Twitter but no links to social media. This might help. You could also add more than one photo for each listing, perhaps giving a sense of scale.

I have not had a sale yet either which is a shame. I will keep my fingers crossed for you

I’ve had a look at ‘Stephen Allen Original Paintings’ and your work looks great! I think it helps if you tend to think of online shops as showcases for work rather than generating lots of sales. One of the big disadvantages for a lot of us ‘artists’ is that art work looks much better in real life & is difficult to appreciate when viewed online (this is especially true of my tiny miniatures!). For me it seems worth maintaining an online presence, working hard at optimizing my shop and ramping up social media etc. (all the successful artists seem to have nailed social media). some people do seem to make sales online so I live in hope. Perhaps you could try to diversify and produce other things like greetings cards and decorations - sometimes it is just a matter of tweaking a design or product. It could be that you (and me) are in the wrong place but it does not cost much to have an online shop so I would say stick at it - your work is super and deserves to sell. If you still enjoy what you do and enjoy the Folksy group give it a bit longer - Christmas usually improves business and it is only a few months away. Good luck.

Hoping everyone starts having some sales

On the topic of supporting art (rather than craft) better as a platform, if there are any suggestions or feedback please do let me know, it’d be great to hear.
