Non payer advice :(

Hi all,

Imagine our delight when we got a product sold notification last night for one of these beauties

but then no payment email. Not really sure what to do now. I don’t want to bug them and look desperate for a sale but then what if they got interrupted and forgot, I don’t want to cancel their order? Any advice would be much appreciated!

It’s unfortunately quite common for a variety of reasons. It’s best to email them and say that the item is ready for posting as soon as they’ve completed the purchase. Ask if they are having any payment difficulties that you may be able to help them with. If you hear nothing back after 24 hours, you should cancel the sale so someone else might buy it!

It’s always worth contacting the buyer as sometimes there’s a problem at the checkout.

I just tend to send them an email saying something like: Hi, I got a notification that you were trying to purchase something from my Folksy shop. The item didn’t actually get paid for. If you decided not to go ahead with the purchase that’s fine, I can just cancel the order to return the item to my shop and claim the commission fees back. If you would still like to make the purchase please feel free to get in touch with me so that we can sort out the payment. Many thanks.’

Sadly it’s a common occurence, but it’s worth contacting as sometimes it is a problem with the checkout system or Paypal.

I had this and an email seemed to sort it out. Good luck. Rachel

All my slow payers have turned into non payers, every single one, so all you can do is contact them and then if you do not hear back within 24 hours cancel the order so your item returns to you shop.
Fingers crossed for you.

After a certain length of time I think that they can’t return to the checkout anyway, so your item is in limbo.
Like everyone’s said, get in touch, it’s nice to know either way!

I had one a couple of nights ago and sent a quick e-mail saying 'Thanks for the order, As soon as I receive confirmation of payment I’ll post it etc. If you’re having difficulties at checkout, please let me know and I’ll try to help." I got a speedy reply saying it wouldn’t let her use a credit card at the paypal checkout, so she was waiting for her OH to come home and pay by paypal instead. It all went through ok the next morning.
Just remind them that the link in the e-mail that will take them back to the order is only valid for 24 hours.

Nearly all of my ‘non payers’ want to pay but have failed for various reasons.
Eg
.they live abroad but are buying for posting to the UK - Folksy / Paypal has problems with that
. They’ve forgotten their password to Paypal

Example below of what I send - usually after 3 -4 hours as if they’ve not paid by then they are 95% not going to or have a problem,

If they do come back to me, and they nearly always do I offer to send them a paypal invoice (and mark later as paid on Folksy) if that is easier of it they can’t get the link from the email to work. I have also on several occasions accepted a cheque - sent after they receive the parcel containing paperwork and my address details - but not everyone would want to do that (I’ve Never had anyone default on me

Note also that if they have mistyped their email address into Folksy (there is no validation) they will not receive the order confirmation and therefore the payment link. You will know it was mistyped if you try to email them and can generally work out what the email address should be and correct it but in that case they would have to pay you by Paypal invoice as they will not have a payment link.

Hope that is clear enough. (finger ache  )

Hi
I’ve received your order for the xxxxxxxxxxxxx and thank you very much for this;

When I receive an order from Folksy I should receive 3 emails.
1 the notification from Folksy of the order and 2 notifications of payment - one from Folksy and one from Paypal.
Only the first has come through, the order notification below and the order is still showing as awaiting payment in Folksy.

You may not yet have got round to making the payment or It may be that you have had a problem with the payment via Paypal as this does happen every now and then.
Folksy and Paypal can become disconnected during the order / payment process leaving the order unpaid.

If so you should be able to get back into the order to make the payment by following the link in the email you should have received from Folksy when you placed the order.
This link is valid for 24 hours.

Can you let me know if you have a problem please and I will try to assist you further.

Regards and thanks
Joy xx
