Hi, I am new to Folksy and have stocked my shop over the last 2 weeks. I sell girl’s hair bows. I am happy with my shop and think stock looks great and not priced very high but no takers so far. Any advice on what gets things moving?
Thanx
Brenda

Two weeks is very short time. It does take time to get seen on the internet.
Have you been promoting your shop yet on social media plateforms have you been telling people how to find your shop?
such as facebook, twitter, pinterst, instragram, google+
BTW I would remove your Trade Mark Items asap ie beauty and the beast, Peter Rabbit as you are in infringement of Disney’s Trade Mark I would suggest reading up on Trade Mark laws there is a link in the about folky. You are opening yourself up to be sued.
Your other bows are beautiful but do show a photo of the back of the work so people can see the clip.
I hope some of that helps and I’m sure someone will come along with links for you to check out and more advice.
All the best with your first sale it usually take a couple of months to get your first sale.
Keep promoting, anywhere… everywhere.
Hi Eileen, thanks for that advice Eileen- have taken them off, better safe than sorry
Like Eileen, I think it is important to show the backs of your items, both to show the type of clip and how well it has been finished.
I was wondering about putting ‘dance’ or ‘dancing’ in your tags, also check spellings of your tags so they are more likely to be found in searches.
It does take a while to get your first sale, mine was several weeks, when it happens make sure you build on it by giving the customer a first class experience. Do you have a Facebook page for your shop? I’ll look you up.
It’s a really pretty shop, I hope you do well xxx
Look on the folksy blog as there’s loads of great info on setting up and promoting your shop. The resources provided already are well worth delving into, as they’re often written by successful sellers. Good luck!
Thanks for feedback, I may have rushed a bit, will check all insertions
again and edit or add to. I have a Facebook page but when others search for
it externally they can’t find. It comes up on my computer when I Google it
so need to look into that. Thanx again
firstly, welcome to Folksy…
2 weeks is nothing…I waited 3 months for my first sale, so hang on in there…
Also there is a folksy facebook group that you can join…
Keep listing and keep joining in on the forums so that people get to know you…
good luck (from another Brenda…nice name!)
Great name, my maiden name is Cromie, same sound as yours just spelt
different. Had great advice and am going to go over what I have listed and
improve my insertions. Will join folksy Facebook
Also there’s a chance to join in on British Crafters Facebook page most days, Dottie and everyone there are very supportive.
Im here since 2014 and still waiting for first sale…
I dont know where my problem is
But fingers crossed for you I hope someone will finally find our makes and purchase them! x
Hi, I had a quick peek at your shop and your stuff is lovely and I am not just saying that. I looked at another persons sales on ebay selling hair bows not unlike mine and her sales were through the roof- i think price plays a big role. I like my shop though and spent a bit of time tidying it up today based on feed back i was given. I think we need to get noticed.

Could you open on Ebay yourself, to compare the sales on both sites, like for like? I don’t know the selling fees for Ebay but I hope they’d be affordable. It might be that the market for hair bows is pretty much on Ebay…
I see a big problem you are not using your tags.
Also your Christmas ear rings are at the top of the page you might want to go into your dashboard click Shopkeeping and drag each one down so you are showing your other items or simply click move to top on the other items that’s would be quicker. This is also done in Shopkeeping on your dashboard.
Also are you promoting here on the forum ie join in some of the promoting threads where we promote each others work.?
Are you promoting on social media sites?
If you make to sell on ebay you can’t do that from your personal ebay account you need a ebay business account and the fee’s for that are more expensive.
If you use your private ebay account and get caught they’ll ban you from ebay.
Im still improving my shop (changing pics cos they are all different :/) also tags.
I’m promoting on Facebook, Fb groups, marketplace. No success
I noticed that people would like to have it for free lol but when it comes to buy something there is silence. But I’m still trying.
Starting on instagram.
I used to have blog but since I moved to UK I had to start from scratch and its difficult. (2013)
Im on folksy since 2014.
All advice is appreciated and I’m still changing tags. Now I see that someone Is looking at the shop but no sales yet. So for sure it works
You might want to use the words ear rings or ear studs in your title as well as your tags
Also a photo of the backs of the ear studs would help.
I also notice in one photo you have a key ring in a hand with broken finger nails that will put people off.
Best not to use hands unless they are perfect as customer can be put off.
Have you tried Craftjuce, twitter, googleplus , as well to promote and business cards to hand out to friends, associates, people you meet.
Hi
I was one of the people looking at your shop having seen your previous post.
Suggestion… get rid of those featured, lovely, Valentine tags - that was a month ago so it looks as if your shop is not being updated. They should be being advertised as Mothers Day
Also so lots of Christmas things on the front page. No problem having them in your shop but shunt them further down using the Shopkeeping option.
Photos — I love those with the white backgrounds but the earrings on the green grass leave me cold. Could you redo with a white background.
If you want Folksy to favourite anything of yours, which is always great promotion, you need clean backgrounds. Look at Folksy favourites and you will see what I mean.
Oh also I did go to your blog but it was in Polish ? and your shop now on Facebook takes you to direct Facebook sales.
Hope some of this helps and good luck with your delicious ‘edible’ pieces.
Joy xxx
Ahhh…I’ve never sold on Ebay so that is news to me!
It might still be worth it, if the items are a guaranteed seller on Ebay.
Hi,
this has turned out to be a useful discussion for me. When I went back over my shop I realised that I wouldn’t have bought from me- all the insertions were rushed- so fixed that. I think for me it is about promotion and pricing. There is a market on Folksy for me if people know I am here. Without any external customers the folksy community alone is a market as there will be a significant number who have little girls or grandchildren or friends who have children. So the market is here. Pricing is important as people want value for money. This might mean introducing good flash sales on items.
I was contacted yesterday evening on FB for a gift box of bows- I didn’t know the person and don’t have a big following on FB so the word is getting out. I took the advice given on this thread to provide fabulous service. I sent them free delivery and added an extra surprise bow in the box. That will hopefully help repeat sales and spread the word.
While I only have 16 items listed I do have a lot more products made but trying to keep them separate for craft fairs - as I was afraid of selling something at a fair and on folksy at same time- but maybe I need to take that chance and fill my folksy shop.
Ana- you have some good advice there given by others. You too have a market in front of you inside and outside Folksy community as many sellers are female and wear jewellery. From my personal experience I used to buy a lot of jewellery online when there was flash sales- maybe special promotions would work for you too. Also I have sensitive ears so if your product can cater for that.
