I love to recycle packaging, my quilting wadding comes in a huge bag (plastic) but when I send a quilt to someone I turn it inside out and reuse it again, but always pack my quilt in large sheets of tissue paper which can be recycled. I keep any boxes to keep my tiny pieces of fabric in, if it can be used again I will keep it, I keep tissue paper as I use it for foundation piecing.
Whilst i appreciate a lot of sellers use eco friendly options for packaging such as reusing boxes, filling etc I choose to use new packaging for my shop. My reviews often mention how nicely orders are packaged and to date nobody has ever complained that they are not eco friendly.
Most of what I buy is from Kite packaging and made from recycled materials however, the 12 reels of sellotape and brown tape i buy each time isn’t as eco friendly tape has an extortionate price tag that I refuse to pay.
New flat packed boxes suit my needs, I use a few different size boxes for the varying sizes of items in my shop and store X amount of each in my workroom where they are always at hand. 2nd hand boxes that I do save have to go into the loft and I can’t access the loft myself.
My local orders that I hand straight to the buyer are wrapped in tissue but placed in teddy bear or brown kraft gift bags, (both made from recyled materials) some of my local customers send the bags back to me which I reuse for personal use.
