Payment for sales

I made my first sale just over a week ago and I was surprised to find that the payment would take so long to land in my account the email gave me the date of the 5th and of course that being a bank holiday I didnt expect it until today, I have checked my bank today and it still has not arrived. I moved from another online site because I was not happy with their payment policy and I thought Folksy would be quicker and more straightforward. Has anyone else had problems with payments

Since posting Ive received a message saying that my payment should be in my account tomorrow. I may have been hasty due to a previous bad experience with a different site
Thanks John

Folksy would not be delaying payment as nothing to do with them. It is down to who you used either as PayPal or Stripe.

How did the customer pay?

Did they do an echeque through PayPal?

Do know if a new account the money may be held u til the customer has the goods.

Are your accounts verified?

If PP I did you tick instant transfer. The money paid by the customer goes straight into my pp account, I then transfer to my business account instantly.

I have never had funds delayed before but do have business verified accounts.

Folksy by having nothing to do with the funds are much better than the dark side who have been holding onto money.

If you customer paid by PayPal you need to check your PP account to ensure you have set automatic transfers to your bank account - otherwise if you go into the account you will find it sitting there waiting for you to transfer it.

If it was a stripe payment we find they can take up to 7 days which is rubbish.

Folksy have nothing to do with when you get your money as Caroline said. Hope you get it sorted.

Thank you for responding. I would never consider going back to the dark side having been there before but I did expect Folksy to be more straightforward. If the problem is not resolved quickly I will simply give up on online sales, I know everyone’s experience is different and some people appear to be doing well but I have found it difficult to generate the level of interest necessary to make it worthwhile. Thank you John

With Folksy you have to spend a lot of time promoting on social media. I post everyday on FB, Insta and Pinterest plus do the daily challenge on the forum.

Listed a card yesterday and a cash envelope today, both now sold. Money in my PayPal account set to instant transfer.

Your own website can be just as hard if not harder, no been there and got the T-shirt, at least in here we are in a community and the site is trusted by buyers,

based on the time lines you’ve quoted I suspect that it was a stripe payment - you can check on the order page to confirm stripe or paypal. Stripe hold the money for 7 business days and will send you an email when they send the money to your bank account, I’ve always found once they have released the money it turns up in my bank account within a few hours. Once you have built up a payment history with stripe it is possible to get those 7 days reduced - I’m on a 3 business day hold (can’t remember if it was automatically done or if I had to ask for an account review).

Thank you, I take your point I had a website for years and decided in the end it wasn’t worth keeping on. Since my post Ive had a message saying payment should be in my account tomorrow. I may have been hasty with the post but Ive had bad experiences with another place and thought that it was happening again. I am not very adept with social media so I will work on developing that. Congratulations on your sales and thanks again for your support John

Thank you Ive had a message saying my payment should arrive tomorrow, thanks for responding I appreciate the support John

Since I posted Ive had a message to say that I should have my money tomorrow

Why does it matter if your money arrived on the day of sale or 7 days later as long as you know that it will arrive then. You can hardly guarantee the date you will make a sale. If your sale had not been until today and payment was immediate would be the same result.
I was just notified by 3 separate emails from Stripe of money popping in to my account today. Money from my sales beginning of last week.

John, your work is lovely. I especially like your glass pieces. I think a lot of us artists are good at the art bit but kind of struggle with the promotion aspects and getting the interest. I certainly do myself. I hope you keep going because I’d hate to think your work wouldn’t be available to people.

Well done on your sale John xxx I think it’s understandable to be a bit anxious about using a new site at first, but it will all fall into place for you.

Thanks Emma, I will keep going. I think like most of us I have bad days but I am working on some new pieces for the glass inventory that I will be adding shortly, and you’re right I am terrible at the promoting side. Thanks for your support

If I have a sale with paypal it goes straight into my paypal account and I transfer from there to my bank account. It’s instant for me.
Stripe does take longer but you don’t have to offer stripe, you can use just paypal x

I like to get the payment asap…times are hard.

Thank you, I’ve heard from them they say it should be in my bank tomorrow but now you’ve told me the advantage I will look into PayPal thanks for your support
John

My sales payments took 7 working days to credit to my account using Stripe method…

Thanks Noelle, I have heard from them they said that I should have it tomorrow. Thanks for your support
John

Well times may be hard but there is never any guarantee when an order will be placed so I cannot see it makes any difference if the payment is a few days later or not. No sale = no payment anyway whether immediate or 7 days delayed.
I can see that there are many sellers on Folksy who quite clearly don’t have any orders at all from one month to the next.
