I also received an initial email which made me think I was accepted and suggested I got on with setting up my shop.
Would have been pretty cross if I had wasted time setting up when I received the rejection letter later.

They liked my shop but I can’t proceed as I don’t have an instagram account. It’s definitely a good idea to contact them first to see if what you do fits their concept.
I will definitely keep them in mind if anything changes, though!.
Just one more point… and I won’t say more as i know it might look as if I have a personal problem with this which I don’t…apart from some very unbusinesslike processes… but why would you pay a monthly fee …which is higher than the Folksy monthly fee for something which is just a very limited shop front (8 items) to your shop on Folksy ??
I for one could spend that £6 each montn more effectively on an FB or IG promotion.

The fee is getting you promotion on their IG feed, access to the members support area and free participation in the virtual craft market at the end of the month. But you could easily spend the money on doing your own IG promotion and participate in any of the other virtual markets that are going on.
