My plus membership was due to expire on 29th November and I thought it would come out automatically so I cancelled the direct debit. I haven’t made enough sales to cover it this year so I wanted to see how things went during November and then access whether to start again now or some time in the new year. I was also considering whether I’d be better to pay per listing as I went along.
It seems that the direct debit cancellation has caused my account to be restricted so I cannot add anything new and all my current listings have been hidden and my plus membership has been cancelled with immediate effect. Therefore I am losing A FULL MONTH which I had paid for.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any advice? Or is there something I’ve missed? I have contacted Folksy support but have not had a reply yet.
The plus account fee doesn’t automatically get taken year on year , you have to manually pay. So maybe it has tried to cancel the current years payment, which would cause problems.
I’m sure support will sort it out for you .
Thank you. I hope so. I’m really not sure what its done. The full payment came out last November / December. I didn’t realise it would cause problems to cancel DD.
They were hidden earlier, and I received two emails telling me that my account had been restricted and products were no longer visible. I have not had a reply from Folksy yet but I wonder if my shop is showing up again? I will check now.
@JOYSofGLASS and @KBCreations It looks like its come back. Still had no reply from Folksy so might just email them again to check everything is ok. Thank you for letting me know you can see my shop again x
Deborah, the Plus account has changed since last November. You used to have to pay manually every year but now you set up a direct debit and it will be taken automatically unless you cancel it. I was on the old system as I renewed in October last year and I had to wait for mine to expire before I could renew it. I renewed it on Tuesday. I had to set up a new direct debit instruction (you can choose either monthly or yearly) and that will now carry on automatically until I cancel. There’s some blurb about it somewhere. I’ll see if I can find it when I get home and can look on the laptop, as it’s awkward on my phone.
@PocketfulCreations Thank you Helen. I wasn’t sure what it would do as mine should run until November. I thought better to cancel just to be on the safe side. I wish I hadn’t now as didn’t think it would cause problems.
I don’t really know how it works with cancelling it. I’m sure I read something about it in the Folksy sellers info section but I can’t remember exactly what it said. It’s never been an issue before as you could only sign up for a year on the old system and it was a one-off advance payment so there was no cancellation option. Now it’s all changed I’m not too sure about it all.
Did you have bill for fees in October? (ie folksy fees for sales in September) If you don’t pay your bill within the month that it is issued they will restrict your account.
I have just been able to list an item, so it seems to have been re-instated. Phew! I was really worried earlier as I thought I’d lost all my listings. Thank you everyone for your help and advice.
@SashaGarrett I owe £1.39 but have never had a bill as its less than £2. This is from my full year as I’ve not had many sales. I did wonder if that had caused the problem when I cancelled the DD but I’ve read up on it this morning and I think you can pay with paypal once billed anyway.
As I’ve listed something now I’m hoping its all ok and I will just wait for Folksy to email me and confirm.
Payment
We’re using GoCardless as the payment method. You will need to enter your bank sort code, bank account number and name.
Make sure that your bank account is set up to allow Direct Debits. If your payment fails or if refused by your bank, your Folksy account may be put on hold automatically. If this occurs, please contact us for assistance.
Cancellation of the Plus account
You can cancel your subscription at any time and your Plus account will then expire when the next payment is due. Any payments that have already been taken (or any that are processing) will not be refunded.
This means if you cancel a £45 annual payment after a few months, your Plus account will continue for the year but your renewal for the following year will be cancelled.
Similarly if you cancel a monthly £5 plan, your Plus account will continue for the remainder of the month and will expire when the next payment is due.
Plus accounts last created or renewed from November 2017 are automatically renewed monthly or annually by Direct Debit unless you cancel before the next payment is due.
Plus accounts last created or renewed before November 2017 will expire at the end of your 12 month plan. When your Plus account has expired you will be able to renew it by setting up a new Direct Debit.
You can check the status and expiry date of your Plus account at any time from Dashboard > Shop Settings > PLUS account:
Thank you Helen @PocketfulCreations I am all sorted now. It looks as though it did just get put on hold automatically, although reading this I would have expected this more if I paid monthly rather than when I had paid for a year at once. Oh well. Glad it is sorted now.
