Questions about Folksy Plus

Hi, I’ve got a couple of questions about Folksy plus I hope someone can help with. I did check the help pages, but it’s still not clear.

Is it possible to cancel part way through the year if I decide I want to revert to basic? Or is it a fixed yearly contract, even though a monthly DD is paid? And does it automatically renew the following year, do you have to contact Folksy to not renew? (I’d probably forget the renewal date! )

Thanks!

From what I understood you can cancel before the next payment is due. Mine is renewed each month automatically. You can see on Plus account on the left hand side in your Dashboard, tells you if active and further down the button to cancel:

Your Folksy Plus membership

With a Folksy Plus membership you don’t get charged any listing fees, meaning you can list as many items as you like, as often as you like. Read more here.

Your Folksy Plus membership is active!

To cancel your subscription click here.

Renewal of the £5 per month plan

If you are on the monthly Folksy Plus account and pay by subscription to a recurring Direct Debit, your account is automatically renewed monthly unless you cancel before the next payment is due.

Hope that helps

I usually have the Plus account, I have it at the moment, but cancelled it for a few months earlier in the year when I was unable to give my shop much attention and wasn’t making or listing at all. It was straightforward. So yes, I think it’s month by month and you can cancel or renew as you wish.

I can verify that you can cancel and restart again if you need to. I did exactly that a couple of months ago when I knew I didn’t have time to list much. It seems really flexible. If you are going to dip out, make sure you renew anything that is due while your plus membership is still live.

It’s a monthly direct debit and there’s no minimum time (well, apart from one month), so you can drop out part way through the year if you want. You have to cancel it, not Folksy, and there is a link to do that on your plus account page. If you don’t cancel it then it will carry on renewing every month this year, next year, the year after… until you do cancel it.

Unfortunately it’s not very easy to know when the renewal date is at the moment, and I think the plus account page only warns you when the date is coming up maybe a week before it happens. You don’t have to wait for the renewal date to cancel though, once your month is paid, you’ve got your plus account for the next month, and if you cancel at any time during that month, it just means your next payment won’t come out so your plus account will stop next month, not immediately.

Although it’s not quite so bad accidentally paying one extra month if you were thinking of stopping, but there also used to be an annual account, and people who signed up for the annual account by direct debit are still on that, so that will also automatically renew if they don’t cancel it and they will have paid for a full year.

It never used to be tho did it? Is this new? (Yearly one)

A few people due to the timing of when they renewed their old style ‘pay once per year’ annual account managed to get themselves on a ‘pay once per year direct debit which acts like a proper direct debit’ and gets taken every year until they cancel it. Most people though aren’t on these and got switched from a ‘only taken once not really a direct debit’ payment to the ‘pay per month behaves like an actual direct debit’ account. The ‘pay it once per year by actual direct debit’ account is archived and not available to anyone not already on it.
That’s probably as clear as mud.

If you have paid for a month and don’t have much to list, you can cancel before the next month’s payment. Relist everything just before your month is up, and the listings will be active for another four months, which seems like a bargain…
Of course there are some advantages to having the Plus account, such as being able to relist constantly and keep your items at the top in searches, but I haven’t found that very advantageous lately. It may work for some people. I just dip in and out of it.

I believe the annual account used to be you have to pay manually every year, and then early last year they switched it to a direct debit payment that will automatically renew until you cancel it. Then near the end of last year they got rid of the annual plus account, but are letting those that signed up to the direct debit keep it for now.
That means if you last paid when it was still manual payments, your annual account will have run out by now and you’ll either have had to switch to a monthly direct debit or standard account. If when you last paid you signed up to a direct debit (I think it’s payments between February and November last year, but not certain), then your account should automatically renew unless you cancel it before.

We’ve just introduced a new email notification for anyone who is still on the old annual Folksy Plus account, Kim and @SashaGarrett @Amberlilly. It goes out around 15 days before the annual account autorenews to remind you that it’s going to renew and gives you the option to cancel it, if that’s what you’d like to do. The wording around the Plus accounts on the dashboard is still confusing so we need to look at that.
