Think I may have been missing something here! Can anyone advise please? When I look at others posting on Facebook for example, they quote an item number in their link to Folksy. Where do you find that number please? Many thanks
Looking at your Facebook posts you are putting the link to your overall shop. When I promote an item use the link on the page of the item shown. The customer will then get taken instantly to that page.
As a plus member I copy the magic link just for social media, just above the main photo highlighted in blue.
Hi, when youāre in the individual item click on the URL at the top then paste this or use the magic link if youāre a plus member as Caroline says. I hope this makes sense
I am not a plus member but I still use the magic link. It doesnt mean anything, ie I dont get reduced costs. But it is so much easier than copying the url.
Thank you ladies! I did not realise you had to use the magic link every time you posted your items for sale! Makes sense now, will have another try soon .

Using the magic link is not the point being made. On your FB posts you are putting the link to your shop front. If you are sharing a specific piece you have made then you should put the link to the actual piece not to your shop. That way if someone wants it they can click and buy .. rather than clicking the shop link and having to search your shop.. in which case there is a a far less chance they will continue to buy.
This is the link you need on your boxy wash bag post.
Thank you Joys of Glass. You are right that is what I need to achieve. I will have to have more practice!
Happy posting Lindy
I have never used the magic linkā¦I hate new things and get too scared to use themā¦Of course it is there on my pageā¦but what are the benefits and how do I use it ?
I use for all social media posts. Do not be scared Brenda just go for it.
Iāve had a reasonable number of F sales since this was introduced. Had one tiny sale where it applied but in the meantime our customers are getting Folksy cookies on their devices without their being asked if they want them .
OK Caroline @Caroleecrafts ā¦I clicked on itā¦what do I do now?..???
It is copied, go to social media and just paste where you want it to go.
so I just copy the URLā¦and then post it on social media with one of my items ?
I clicked it and it says that the link was successfully copiedā¦so I clicked again where it said ācopy the linkā and nothing happenedā¦what am I supposed to see or do?
Once you have clicked the blue line, it copies automatically, go straight to sm and just click paste in the text bar.
See it as a short cut, to save you having to copy the url. Thatās all.
Brenda @teabreaks
ahā¦thank youā¦whenever I post anything on fb or insta I just post the URL linkā¦so is there any difference?..because the URL links to the actual item I am showing and surely the magic link is just for my shop in general?
There is a magic link on each item, I think.
The difference, for Plus members, is that if someone buys the item as a result of that magic link, you pay less commision. It makes no difference to run of the mill people like me, it is just a bit easier!
I will investigateā¦xx
If the URL you post on your social media has the magic link included⦠What happens is that when someone clicks that link, a cookie is dropped onto their device.
I will point out here, again, that Folksy gives no warning they they are dropping cookies and legally they should !
If that same person then goes to buy the linked thing, within ,24 hours, the system will detect the cookie on their device and will discount the commission you pay. This discount will be peanuts and very unlikely to be worth the time and effort you put into posting that special link instead of the normal link.
This is a cookie link to a listing in my shop
https:/ /folksy.com/find/item/7532355-Patchwork-Quilt-Suncatcher-Stained-Glass-
This is the normal non magic link
https:/ /folksy.com/items/7532355-Patchwork-Quilt-Suncatcher-Stained-Glass-
So it is the addition of the /find in the listing url which turns it āmagicā
No the magic is for each item when taken from the item page
