Royal Mail price increase from 4th April

Apparently Royal Mail will be increasing their prices from 4th April, so those who buy stamps to post their items might want to stock up.

First Class 95p
Second Class 68p

Large letter First Class £1.45
Large letter Second Class £1.05

Thanks for that Alison.

Just followed the link to look at the price increases, must be due to the cost of fuel. really hope the increased postage doesn’t put people off but sadly will have to put my postage up this year.

Well well… I may be hallucinating but it looks as though the price of sending a small parcel by second class (buying postage online) is coming down!

Thanks for the info, will go and have a look now !! x

Thank you for the link @FluffStuffCrafts, I’ve been looking everywhere for this info, they don’t make it easy to find do they?

You’re right, @HelenSmith, looks like while the prices to send a letter have all increased, price to buy postage online for small parcel second class has dropped by 5p. Weird (but I’m grateful for small mercies!)

I suspect with the increase in people shopping online over the last couple of years Royal Mail are concentrating more on parcels than letters and have to be cheaper to compete with various other delivery companies, but because they have the monopoly on letters, they can charge what they like! :money_mouth_face:

I am already stocking up on the new bar coded stamps and using up all my old ones…
Sadly I think that more and more people will stop sending cards now…especially at Christmas…Sad when I can get a whole box of Christmas cards for the same price as ONE stamp… (I don’t usually make Christmas cards because they are so cheap in the shops.)…
It is a BIG price hike…

I tend to use tracked 48 for small parcels and that has come down by about 40p but for the heavier parcels they have taken out a band so 5kg-10kg has come down a lot! Good news for my wholesale customers anyway.

Yes. Oh the joys of postal increases.

We need to have the option on post charges fir the customer to select either 1st or 2nd. If added into additions get charged comm on the postage.

Think I may change to 2nd class in April as notice does not seem to take that much longer.

I wondered why there were few changes for January 1st which has been their choice of date to increase, but it used to be April so I’m not surprised!! Sadly, I made a decision to only send things 2nd class at the end of 2020, after always sending first class, due to postage increases. I give the customer an option to contact me if they want it sooner or want to use a different delivery service. However, I’m not running a business or making personalised items now, unlike many of Folksy makers, so I hope you all continue to sell (and post!) successfully ! :grinning:

I’ve actually had first class take longer than second a few times…

I think I will do the same Caroline…it seems a better option rather than increasing the prices.x

I agree taking a chance but these new rates are ridiculous.

I had an ad pop up on Fb yesterday, supposedly Royal Mail offering 30% off when you bulk buy stamps, I investigated and believe it to be a scam, but wondered if anyone has ever found a ‘deal’ for postage? Surely there would never be a discount on stamps?

Anyway, I went ahead and bought 100 x second class large letter stamps from the (genuine!) website, I figured it was a better investment to buy stamps than to have money in the bank! They arrived this morning, I think that’s good service.

Costco sell bulk packs of stamps which work out a little cheaper per stamp, but it’s more like a few pence, I haven’t seen anything as much as 30%.

If you use stamps, then don’t forget to stock up as they will soon increase in price.
I just bought 50 2nd class and 50 1st class, because by ordering that quantity online, they are sent post free…the 1st class are going UP by 10p a stamp…so on those alone I have saved £5…AND …woohoo…the new bar coded 1st class stamps are…( drum roll)…PURPLE…ha ha.

@plumporridge …A long time ago , I actually ordered some of those stamps from fb…and was frightened to use them in case they were fakes…( I didn’t think I would be conned)…All the phone numbers etc appeared genuine and even under a magnifying glass they looked identical…I still have them.
IF they are fakes, how can they get away with continual ads on fb…there are also dozens of these sellers on Am…on…and the auction site…surely someone can trace and prosecute…
In the mean time I have my genuine ones from Royal mail that came today…

Thank you for the info Alison
