…for now, anyway. 2025 was the first year when my Plus account didn’t pay off, so I decided to stop it for now, especially since the renewal is due this month, and January is always a financially difficult month. I’m not sure what will happen to my listings after January 19th, but I guess I’ll find out.
In the meantime, I rearranged my shop, I put many items on sale, and I created an album “Paintings on Sale” - I really need to destash my studio so I can create new paintings as I have so many new ideas, but I need space to think and create :).
Feel free to have a look and enquire about any item you see. I am happy to offer more deals. Feel free to share with your friends; someone might want a bargain
That being said, this is not supposed to be a negative post, as I know that everyone struggles, and I know Folksy is doing their best to promote handmade and artisans. I really hope things will pick up again for me, and I can get back to Plus, hopefully later this year.
Here is a link to my Sale album and a couple of images with my latest jewellery creations, with art prints from my paintings.
Glad to see you aren’t closing completely and I wish you every success this year with both your paintings and your jewellery.
I’ve recently changed my yearly sub to a monthly one and I’m going to see how this year goes, I’m going to try and do some fairs this year too and get out there more.
You items are unique to you and your style so I hope you can build up a customer base on that :).
Thank you so much. I did have success in the past, but people have moved on to other things, so I guess I have to adapt. I noticed a big change after the pandemic. Monthly subscription sounds good, too - I might get to it in the spring/summer time.
Thank you so much, yes, I am staying as I can’t see myself creating and not being on Folksy but I have to be realistic about costs and profit and the balance is not in my favour at the moment…
Teodora I do hope you stay, I changed to monthly sub last January when the renewal came up. There is no way I could do pay per listing, with over 500 items would be prohibitive. I looked it as £7.50 per month, less than a cup of coffee and cake out.
To renew my listings of 695 every 4 months would cost £125 = £31 per month.
Your listings of 179 every 4 months cost £26.82 = £6.70 per month. However you would have less images, no feature facility. To me the monthly figure gives you scope to add if you want to. Hope this helps but up to you what you do. Plus have to pay a large amount every 4 months. Xx
Thank you so much for this. Why haven’t I done the calculations myself? Many items are actually quite old, so I am planning to delist them and only leave new creations in my shop. I will do a recalculation and see if I should still keep the plus account but pay monthly. To be honest, I don’t think I am taking the full advantage of the Plus offers, only the unlimited listing, and you mentioned the number of photos - I wasn’t aware of this. I will have to put aside a day and look into it properly; I still have a week until the expiration date. Thanks again, very useful info xx
Aww, that’s great! I had to be somewhere before 7.30 and my husband offered to drive me and to do a delivery run as well - I was worried that it may not be appropriate. I am so glad you got them safely xx
i haven’t used my shop for the past 2 years, (i needed a break from sewing, had a bad hand, and then morphed off into painting) but i kept my plus account “in case”. it’s due up again this month, and i’ll probably have the same conversation with myself about “is it worth it?” vs it’s a drop in the ocean compared to all the other expenses & hobbies, and i’d rather have it, and the option to list when the sewing urge strikes, than lose all familiarity with the platform, process, routine etc.
Thank you very much for your input and kind words. I think I will give it a go at the monthly subscription. I went to my dashboard to change it, but it still shows yearly rather than monthly. I really hope they won’t take out £75 as I can’t afford it right now
This really got me thinking about the plus account - the unlimited listing got me too comfortable to keep listing old items that didn’t sell, rather than creating new ones and just get rid of the old ones. It made me reevaluate my stock, my prices and my creations, and I moved on from much of the old stuff that is still there. I really hope they will switch it to monthly, so I can decide month by month if it’s worth it for me. In the meantime, I will keep tidying up my shop.
Yes, I did that, and it still shows yearly. I refreshed my page, but still nothing … at least now it shows inactive, so I am hoping they won’t charge me tomorrow, and I will try again tomorrow to see if I can change it to monthly. If not, I will contact support (19 would be my renewal date normally).
Like Caroline…it is less than coffee and cake…and less than running your own website.
Less that a night out somewhere as well…AND it might bring money back to you which coffee and cake don’t ( unless you had too much cake ha ha)
I pay per year, take a deep breath and forget about it for another year…and I am living on a widow’s pension…xx
and just to add, it is worth keeping those old ones listed..last month I sold a painting on folksy that has been there for 10 YEARS !!!
I think you have to cancel it within a certain time frame, I can’t remember what it is but I think it is a week before payment is due as the request would of already been sent to the bank.
I can’t remember exactly and I could be wrong but I think that is what happened to me with my second shop.
