Sales categories question

Hi everyone.
Im Barry, my shop is sticksnstaffsUk. Ive introduced myself in the new members section.
I have a question i wonder if anyone can help me with?
I make walking sticks, but also Pagan alter tools such as Ceremonial staffs, Stangs and Wands. I currently have these items listed in
‘Spirituality and Religion’
‘Spiritual Art’
On another selling platform who im not sure about naming here, and of which i dont partake any more, theres a section devoted to Paganism and Alter tools.
Do you think i have my items in the best categories?
Thankyou.
Barry

Hi Barry!
As far as I can see in the listing categories, I’d say that does sound like the best fit for what you are selling.
I do think the categories can be a bit vague on here, and don’t always seem to fit what you are selling, so maybe in the future they’ll expand on it more.

If you’re tagging terms like ‘alter tools’ and ‘wands’ though, this will definitely make it easier to find you.

I love the shop by the way, really lovely

Thankyou so much for your kind words about my shop thewingeddonut. It always fills me with doubt in the early stages.
Thanks also for the confirmation that the categories are the best fit at the moment.

I think we all get a little bit doubtful when we start up; I know I was!
You’re very welcome, and the best of luck selling!

Sometimes if your items are a bit different to what most people make, you might not find a category that seems the perfect fit, but there should at least be something which is the right area (like spirituality and religion). It’s hard to come up with a list of categories that specifically covers every single thing that someone could possibly make, without being hundreds of categories long and completely overwhelming. This means sometimes you need to be a bit vague with the category, although if you can think of a category you think Folksy should have, and there are a lot of items already on the site that would fit in it, you can suggest it to Folksy. New sub-categories aren’t normally created unless there are a good amount of existing listings though (at least a page full), to avoid ending up with hundreds of categories that only have a few items each.

If there doesn’t seem to be a quite perfect category though, it’s important to make good use of your tags. You mention you sell ceremonial staffs and Pagan alter tools, but you haven’t used these terms as tags. If it’s something you think someone might search by when looking for an item like yours, it should go in your tags.

Thankyou for the tip on tags Konyskiw.
Ill get on that tonight.
I get that there cant be categories for everything though, that was the reason for my original question, to check my own reasoning.
Tags hadnt even occurred to me for some reason. I guess too must haste on my part.
Thankyou again.
Barry.
